Hello! This is the planning forum for the leadership team of Hi-Fi SWC November 2024, if you were not invited to be a part of this I kindly ask that you respect that and not stalk the forum, so that you aren't spoiled <3
Anyways, if you are apart of our leadership team, welcome! Please be sure to refrain from posting anything off topic, that can instead go on someone's profile. Also, be sure to snip any big chunks of text so that it's easier to read the posts. I'm so excited to be working with you both!!

Another week of camp has passed. This past week, you completed x/3 of your goals. What goals would you like to set for this weeks goals? (some ideas include write five chapters for your story, do five dailies, or complete the weekly) Keep working at it! You got this <3” Or something along the lines of that. 10/20 (kenzie)

storyline
here's my current idea for the storyline! (more in depth than my leadership app)
campers were all at a museum and suddenly the lights turn off for a few seconds, a door slams and locks, etc. and people are still going about through the museum but suddenly they realize they're all trapped inside (with only a note saying they'll have to build a machine etc to escape) and us (the leaders) gather the campers together, introduce ourselves, etc.
then after all of that, campers will visit different time periods to gather pieces (information or parts of a machine) to escape.
I've given each of us a part for the storyline, and your job for the part(s) will be to make thumbnails, projects (for activities), a storyline, and 6-7 activities related to the storyline. Activity ideas: Buddy activities, logic puzzles, giving clues and then they'll have to find out which (co)leader (that signed up) the clues are pointed to, roleplay, writing activities or workshops (separate from the daily ones), and any other ideas!
My plan is for each part to last seven days, which means you'll have to make sure there's plenty of activities and such. Requirements to move onto the next part will be a certain amount of words written (probably a high number, they'll be able to write a lot in just seven days), activities completed, and more!
If you need help with research for the part or help with ideas please let me know <3
11/2-11/8 - part 1: ice age (paige)
11/9-11/15 - part 2: dinosaurs (vi)
11/16-11/22 - part 3: medieval (kenzie)
11/23-11/29 - part 4: 19th century (paige)
let me know your thoughts on this
Storyline Intro By Paige
You hang towards the back of the class as you enter the museum, taking everything in. Signs point toward exhibits about things such as the ice age, dinosaurs, medieval Europe, and the 1800s. It all looks so interesting, and you can’t wait to explore.
Suddenly, the lights flicker and go out, and the sound of doors slamming shut reverberates through the building. When the lights go back on, one thing is clear: all the doors have been tightly closed, a large lock preventing escape. You’re trapped in the museum.
You find yourself being herded along with the rest of your classmates as three girls, who must be museum guides, try to keep everyone calm.
“Just follow us,” one of the guides, a short teen with shoulder-length hair, says. She leads everyone towards the first - and, frankly, only - open door you see. It leads to a large, mostly empty room. “I’m Kenzie,” the guide says.
“I’m Vi,” another guide, with medium-length brown hair and glasses, introduces herself.
“And I’m Paige,” the third guide says, pushing her own glasses up her nose and pulling her dark hair into a ponytail. “There’s no need to worry,” she continues.
“We’re your guides,” Vi adds.
“Whatever happens,” Kenzie finishes, “we’ll lead you through it.”
You begin to feel a little safer - curious, even, about what’s happening. Observing your surroundings, you gasp. In the middle of the room is a large metal machine, with its door wide open. Wandering inside, you brush your fingers over the control panel.
Suddenly, lights go on and it’s as if the machine is coming to life. Your classmates, along with Kenzie, Vi, and Paige, crowd around you as a message appears on the screen.
‘To escape the museum, you must complete the key. To complete the key, you must complete the tasks. Completing the tasks will take the creativity and bravery required to try something new.’
A slot opens in the wall, revealing a key with four small circles on it. Perfect for four charms to fit. Then the door of the machine slides closed, and an automated voice speaks over the intercom:
“Time travel initiated. Prepare to go back to: the ice age.”
“I think you’d all better hold on!” Kenzie calls.
You do as she says, and all you can do is hold on tight as you and everyone else are sent flying back through space and time.
Ice Age Storyline
The time machine rumbles to a stop, the doors slide open, and everyone steps out into a cold, icy, barren landscape.
“I guess we really are in the ice age,” Paige says.
“What are we supposed to do here?” Vi wonders.
“Look!” Kenzie exclaims, pointing to an oddly colorful speck in the otherwise white-grey landscape. Everyone walks over to it.
It’s a basket woven with ribbons of every shade imaginable. Inside is a note, and you all lean in to see what it says.
‘Welcome, travelers. How do you like the cold? Complete these tasks by the end of the week if you ever want to leave.’
Kenzie reaches into the basket and pulls out a folded up paper, containing the list of activities which read:
"1. Take 2 or more characters of yours and put them in a bitterly cold, snowy landscape. Write about how the different characters react to this, and what events proceed from that. To complete this task, 5 people need to write at least 1,500 words.
2. Every single snowflake is different, and in a similar way, every single story is unique. Take a scene from a book/movie/show you like, or from a story you’re working on, and rewrite it in an entirely different genre/style than it was originally in.
3. Take a look at this fascinating article about how ice can hold information about the past (optional): https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190417-preserving-ice-from-glaciers-being-melted-by-climate-change. Then, roleplay with your partner about two characters discovering an ancient artifact (or some other thing that sheds new light or information on the past). It can be a real artifact, or something you make up. To complete this task, 3 pairs of partners must each roleplay until they’ve written at least 600 words altogether.
4. Visit at least 3 other cabins and give them some encouragement!
5. Write 200 words of the middle of a story. Then, switch stories with your partner, and write 200 words of beginning for their middle. Switch back once again and write 100 words to complete your original story!
6. Complete any one of the main cabin dailies there have been so far.“
”It also says on the bottom of the paper to complete them by the end of the week, or else we'll be trapped here forever,“ Vi adds.
”Well, we better get started, right?" asks Kenzie.

No worries!
Also, let me know if there's anything that you'd be interested in helping with as for the storyline, graphics, studio, projects, etc. (like just skills that you'd have that would help if that makes sense)

i am good with canva and making collage type thumbs/graphics, and creating color schemes. so i guess the aesthetic/visual side of things?? although i know you are good with that too! i am interested in working with the storyline. i love it so far, and OH MY GOODNESS- I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING-
okay, so the little introductory story at the beginning of the cabin page could go something like "you walk into the museum, hanging towards the back of class (or whatever group the campers would be with, it could literally just be a history-camp group of kids) and taking in everything around you… (insert some other pretty language) then the lights flickered. you hear a door click, and everyone gasps.
i realized i just rephrased everything you already said above, but umm, those are my ideas so far ^^'

alright ^^ sounds great! I'll make a canva for thumbnails and other graphics and such and then send the link to you.
We'll have to figure out a cabin blurb, once I get my third co we can all work together to get that done.
Also we need a cabin symbol, here's some ideas that I have: ➢ ◎ ♣
Let me know which one's you like

Alright!
Also, here's some ideas that I had for activities to do throughout the month :sparkles: Let me know which ones stand out to you/one's you'd like to help with <33
- weekly goals
- monthly cabin writing goal (for example, 300k)
- writing workshops || Notes: some ideas is that we use previous workshops from the past or make our own and have an activity related to it
- letter to end of session self || Note: I think they usually do a daily of this though?
- Beginning and end of session writing comparison || Notes: Campers would pick a prompt somewhere at the beginning of the month, write a few hundred word story on it, and then at the end of the month using the same prompt they'd rewrite the story but using things the learned over the month and it'd kind of be a little comparison thing to see how they improved
- QOTD (or some other *something* of the day)
- Buddie Activities || Notes: Such as interviews, critiques, accountability checks, writing stories together, etc. They'd also keep the same buddy over the whole month; backups would partner with each other or join a duo to become a trio.
- Character development || Notes: Campers could pick an existing/new character that they have and then throughout the month work on developing it more
- World building || Notes: same as above but for world building
- Create your own language || Notes: campers make their own language and then figure out how to speak fully it and maybe have a conversation with someone in it
- Editing a story || Notes: edit their own story or someone else's
If you have any ideas of your own, let me know!
also tasks were added to first post! feel free to look over and reply about them <3

Cabin blurbs are due today, since Paige (our other co) can't get online much today we'll have to figure it out without her but I'm assuming whatever we do write she'll be fine with <3
Here's all three of our cabin blurbs -
Kenzie's Cabin Blurb “I plan to create a creative and welcoming cabin that will help you improve in your writing skills, make many friendships & memories, and learn how to be the best writer you can be.”
Vi's Cabin Blurb “I aim to create a relaxed cabin that focuses on personal writing goals (such as NaNoWriMo) and building community.”
Paige's Cabin Blurb “Friendly, community oriented, and focused on personal writing growth and goals. Campers are encouraged to participate in a way that works for and is worthwhile to them.”
So, all of ours are very similar
And won't be including anything about competition since it is TCTWNW after all.
Here's a little draft that I thought of for the atmosphere:
“With a chill but friendly atmosphere, Hi-Fi campers will grow in writing skills, create memories to last a lifetime, and make many friendships while experiencing the wonder of SWC. ” (181 characters)
Preferably if you could at least get back to me on the atmosphere as soon as possible would be great <3

for the tasks, i would love to work with the aesthetic set as i do have a secret set account
along with making the color palette although i would think that would be more of a group effort, but i can start making a rough idea. i do have a few color types (?) already for that. of course, i will be happy with whatever you need help with, and i can work on writing tasks too.

alright! thank you <3
I edited the atmosphere and I'm going to turn that and the symbol (♣) in <3
Also, thoughts on cabin relationships? Do you think that we should have everyone be an ally, since that was the original intent for TCTWNW? What would you like?

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't caught up on everything until now! I'm really excited to be working with you both!
I like all the ideas so far.
For historical time periods, some that I think would be cool (and that I have a particular interest in lol) are ancient Greece and/or Rome, and sometime from the 1600-1900s. There's lots of cool technology that was invented in those times, which could be part of completing the machine. Examples that come to mind right now are aqueducts for ancient Rome (I'm sure there's much more but I'd have to do some research), and things like the printing press, steam engines, and even electricity for the 17th-20th centuries.
Question, if the campers are traveling through time, are they using a time machine? is it the same machine they're trying to build to escape, or a different machine? or are we still working all that out?
Also, in terms of tasks I'd be up to take on, I don't think I have much expertise when it comes to things like cabin pfps and colour schemes and stuff, and am happy to leave the creation of that stuff to you two. I'm interested in helping create tasks and activities, though! I really like the ideas about buddies, and a beginning vs. end of camp writing comparison.
Some ideas that came to mind:
Instead of a QOTD, how about a Prompt of the Day? That way there'll always be some writing inspiration available for those who need some.
Also, your ideas mentioned interviews, and this random idea popped into my head: what if there's an activity where campers have to pair up (or connect with the buddies they already have) and interview each other not as themselves, but as characters. These could be characters from fandoms, or original characters from their own stories. the activity would help them worldbuild about their character, get practice introducing their character to someone who's unfamiliar with them, and experiment with how their character would answer different questions.
I'm happy to come up with more writing tasks/activities, or write workshops. I know a lot about plot structure (particularly Save the Cat!) which I'd be happy to write a workshop about if you guys like that idea.

I'm very excited to be working with you as well <3
Those sound great! Thank you <3 I'll add those ideas to the main post
It'd be a different machine, I still haven't worked it out yet as for /how/ they'll get to the different time periods but I'm thinking a time machine. The machine to escape and the time machine would be different machines.
Alright! Sounds great <3
Hmm, that is a great idea! But if we do QOTD that'd also be a way to help campers get to know eachother. There will be dailys that campers can do as well but we could always make a project or two with prompt ideas
(or link one, I know that there's a project weekly studio, past weekly posts that we could probably find, and I believe mouse had a cabin wars inspiration project)
Oooo I love that idea! That'd kind of add more onto character building, I think that'd work great
Alright, thank you!

Question, if the campers are traveling through time, are they using a time machine? is it the same machine they're trying to build to escape, or a different machine? or are we still working all that out?
It'd be a different machine, I still haven't worked it out yet as for /how/ they'll get to the different time periods but I'm thinking a time machine. The machine to escape and the time machine would be different machines.
Alright! Sounds great <3
Some ideas that came to mind:
Instead of a QOTD, how about a Prompt of the Day? That way there'll always be some writing inspiration available for those who need some.
Hmm, that is a great idea! But if we do QOTD that'd also be a way to help campers get to know eachother. There will be dailys that campers can do as well but we could always make a project or two with prompt ideas

Oooo I love that idea! That'd kind of add more onto character building, I think that'd work great

I'm happy to come up with more writing tasks/activities, or write workshops. I know a lot about plot structure (particularly Save the Cat!) which I'd be happy to write a workshop about if you guys like that idea.
Alright, thank you!

Okay great! Those sound great! Thank you <3 I'll add those ideas to the main post![]()
Okay! Possible idea I just had: it would be interesting if there was someone behind it all, orchestrating the whole thing. I don't know if that would necessarily make sense though, or what their motives would be. It'd be a different machine, I still haven't worked it out yet as for /how/ they'll get to the different time periods but I'm thinking a time machine. The machine to escape and the time machine would be different machines.
Though I'm happy to help brainstorm for pfps etc., I just wouldn't be great at creating the actual art. Alright! Sounds great <3
Confession - my brain read QOTD and translated it to ‘quote of the day’ instead of ‘question of the day.’ *facepalms*. a QOTD is a great idea, what you said all sounds good. Hmm, that is a great idea! But if we do QOTD that'd also be a way to help campers get to know eachother. There will be dailys that campers can do as well but we could always make a project or two with prompt ideas(or link one, I know that there's a project weekly studio, past weekly posts that we could probably find, and I believe mouse had a cabin wars inspiration project)

Some additional ideas for stuff I (or all of us) could create activities/workshops around: Alright, thank you!
World building
Character goals/motives
Character flaws
Opening scenes
Plot twists
Writing what you know

Sorry wait, I just re-read the part about the note being left, I guess that means there is someone behind it all.

it would be fun having everyone as an ally! although i think it would be nice to have the top two calmest cabins (aside from ours) be siblings.
oops- i meant to quote your message before typing the above XD
also, i realized i can share canva without premium (i know you're setting up the group canva, kenzie, but i'd love to share some color schemes i've created so far)
also also, welcome to the team, paige!!!

all of it sounds great!
luna is wondering if hi-fi would like to be neutrals with steampunk, thoughts?
I don’t have canva premium sadly, but once I make the canva you can add the color ideas to it!

Alright, I've made two canvas for project related graphics and studio related graphics! The project one will be the main one, so feel free to add things like background fonts and more to it!
The only difference between them is the size of the canvas, since project and studio thumbnails need different sizes.
I'll send the links to you both on your profile. Please delete the message after you get it ^^
