On Rateyourmusic, they have a “rough guide to everything”, where they have people vote on the best songs by a certain artist and put it in a list that compiles a rough guide to all the artists that have been voted on so far.

Basically, the metadata requires these key details:

(quote by a user describing why this artist is important)

(the top 5 tracks by said artist according to the voters)

(recommended album)

So… I was thinking that we could come together as a thread and do this same thing but on Scratch with only hip-hop artists. I would curate a studio and for every artist we do I will make a project that has the rough guide entry and add that into the studio.

The way that the rough guide works is by users voting on artists they think should be included in the rough guide first, and then whichever artist gets the most votes is who we rank the top 5 songs and recommend an album and next week, the cycle repeats. So, what I'm asking from you guys is to rank 5 hip-hop artists you would like to see added to the rough guide, which you can find the link for here

Here are the 5 hip-hop artists I nominate first

Kendrick Lamar
A Tribe Called Quest
Nas
Kanye West
MF DOOM

(also I will count up the votes after 3 days so make sure to get your votes in by September 25th!)

I have an idea, where we could try to make a playlist together as a forum, this thing has been going on on r3ddit, basically, we would vote on big rappers' best songs and make a playlist. do u guys think this is a good idea? we would need a lot of people to answer tho.
yes we should do this
that was fast lol. everyone else?? if we get enough yes's, i'll do a list of the big rappers and we can vote one by one, song with the most votes wins.

You can suggest any artists as long as they are hip hop! Producers, rappers, bands, anything is fair game.

A lot of his albums are great but it's undeniable he fell of a cliff sometime during or after 2019.

He's around 7 or 8 for me, I can't place him higher because rapping-wise he's not better than the others, and his last 2 albums were rough.

him and Travis Scott are who I listen to the most, I'd say that most talented rapper gotta be someone like Em or Kendrick, who came outa the hood and made all of their own music, no ghost writers or auto tune

Kanye wrote and made his own beats. Which were amazing. But after 2020, there was a fall off. His unreleased is just so good though.
