Make Ads a ›togglable‹ feature
(#21)this suggestion is to cut down on unwanted advertising, i don't see how it “encourages” anything
if it's a problem that most people don't like but were making a feature to implement it officially

Make Ads a ›togglable‹ feature
If you read more of the OP it says that theres a new type of comment called an ad automatically created by having a link to a studio or project in your comment. THis is adding ads as an official feature which would shoot the fame problem up to new heights(#21)this suggestion is to cut down on unwanted advertising, i don't see how it “encourages” anything

Make Ads a ›togglable‹ feature
The idea is to allow users to control whether they want ads or not. It's not to make ads appear everywhere like youtube. It is Dear god, I am begging you from the bottom of my heart please don't add this. Even if it's toggleable it would force more into the fame aspect of Scratch, which is already stated to be a moderately unwanted side effect of the current system by the STnot promoting ads.
(I think the title gives off that idea, but its a pretty good summary of the idea.)
Yea, but a lot of people just spam links, taking up a ton of time of the owner who has to delete all of the comments.-snip-
This idea is great for people who do not like ads, but how practical is your suggestion? I have a few concerns.
1. There are so many ways for people to say ‘check out my project’. A simple link, the words ‘i think you’ll like my project because my projs are awesome' etc.
2. People who dislike ads don't necessarily always have an issue with mentioning projects. That's a bit extreme in my opinion. Imagine someone says ‘hey @user, do you want to collaborate on a project? details here : (link to explanation project)’ or 'hello, you recently applied to my raffle/contest, results here (link)! thanks, user'It won't be that strict, but we gotta draw the line somewhere. Ads are mostly just spam. There are a few cases where people do in fact like/are okay with ads.
3. Many people say ads aren't allowed, however they may appreciate ads. One user follows me on Scratch so I notify them of new posts in case they haven't seen them. They don't mind this and are absolutely okay with it. I'm sure the same applies to various people, including users who do not like ads.I guess there could be a list of users allowed to bypass the ad block, but that could lead to more issues if ppl get mad not being allowed to advertise. (I guess then you pull out the report button?)
4. Also, some people generally don't want ads but are fine with it if a user is polite like this:I mean, one is spam, the other is actually an effort post. I see a lot more spam than effort posts tho. Take, for example, the many “most loved” or “most remixed” projects. These projects get so much spam that trying to moderate them is basically pointless, and it clogs up the comments.Hello fellow Scratcher! I'm @NoOne, but my name is actually Nella. – I recently posted a new project about (topic) which involved (thing) and (thing). I completely understand that you do not wish advertisements to be posted onto your profile, and I respect that. I do hope that this one advert can be forgiven because I do not advertise on your content and if you do not forgive me, I would like you to know that I am sincerely sorry. – Maybe you want the link tho(Link)
They're more likely to be forgiven. Obviously, people shouldn't take advantage of chill people who are willing to twist their boundaries around, but sometimes it's fine, especially if a user is polite and kind, and not something like:YOU'LL LOVEEE THIS CRAAAZYY PROJECT, WHICH IS A TEN OUTTA TEN FROM MEHHH – SEEE IT NOWW PLEASEEEEEE (linkity link) BYEEEEEEEE MY PROJS ARE SOOOO COOL DONT FORGET TO FOLLOW YARRSSS BYE SLAYY
Which is in capitals, very in-your-face, exceptionally self-promoting, with the promo sort of everywhere, follow-begging in caps and without any kind of ‘please’ or ‘thank you’, and just downright disrespecting User's boundaries. I know that Nella technically did that too, however they acknowledged their mistake.
Some users who aren't well known can just leave the toggle off and manually delete the small amounts ads they get, but users who get featured or popular get assailed by advertisement spam.
Not what I'm saying. I'm saying that it should A. be labelled as advertisements (or spam) and B. block-able without having to turn off comments. I don't understand. From what I can tell, you're saying that since it's already a problem, the Scratch Team might as well encourage it.
I'm saying to label it as “this is spam and should be ignored” type of ads, not the "CLICK HERE" type of ads.if it's a problem that most people don't like but were making a feature to implement it officially -snip-
I hope this explained the idea better :)

This did. In that case I don't see any problems with this suggestion, except its more complicated than other things (like making links just not work) (…)

I'm not saying this would be harmful, but it could look weird sometimes. 3. If the owner has it off, the ads will have an “advertisement” tag on it, letting people easily ignore them.
