Hi Scratch! I’m Ava and I have an idea for next years summer. Can you make a summer camp! I know some Scratchers at my school and they would love to go to a scratch summer camp! And I know that other scratchers on scratch would love a summer camp!

Hello! This is not a suggestion forum. This is the “Help With Scripts” forum.

In the future, you should post suggestions in the “Suggestions” forum.

Educators all around the world already teach the basics of Scratch as part of different courses. So I do not see why this shouldn't be added.

idk how this would be possible.
  • scratch is based in the us, but strives to encourage kiddos from everywhere to code. this means you'd have to go on an airplane to the us if you applied but live in e.g. another continent such as europe. restricting the camp to US only would make this worser.
  • this can cause confusion with Scratch Camp, which is an annual 4 weeks long event where you make projects related to a natural theme - but this is in scratch.
  • some guys could try to do bad stuff, such as showing stuff that violates community guidelines out in the street or smth. the bad word detector does not exist in real life.
i'd recommend this to be hosted as a Scratch Camp instead of an in-person event.

There can still be problems. Schools can think the camp is run by a group that tries to do dangerous illegal activities and pretend to be ST running the event.
Also, with the low amount of ST members to organize these events (ceebee is the only member I know is running Scratch events) they're unable to keep up with the amount of schools joining.

I semi-support this, as long as it doesn't involve in-person stuff, just communicating with the ST via text.

This was made when it used to be in help with Scripts.

The issue with this is that the ST would have to run a worldwide set of camps, which may require a lot of resources that the ST simply doesn't have.

That said, there are (unofficial) Scratch-related camps all over the world.
