For me, when I change my profile, it says it worked, but I always need to refresh the page for it to correctly change. If you've tried that, make sure the file size is under the restrictions, and make sure it's a supported file(.bmp, .jpg, and .png). If all else fails, usually you can just try again in a few days and it will usually work. Make sure it's appropriate as well!

Scratch supports BMP??? That's a file format people USE?

How big is the file size of the picture you're trying to upload? Can't remember what it is off the top of my head but there's definitely a limit.

Just wait a bit, if it drops a green box, then it most likely worked - You just need to wait. It's not instant.

512kb (size), 500x500 (dimensions) are the max limits

What is the file format that you're trying to change it to?

Also, remember that all PFPs must be under 512KB (kilobytes) and must be no larger than 500x500 pixels.

Scratch supports .gif, .png, .bmp, and .jpg files, and .webp in a limited fashion for PFPs.

Is it a WebP? If so, WebP images must be animated, (You can achieve this just by duplicating a frame if it’s a static image) and even so, you may have to try to upload it as your profile picture a few times before it works. And as others have stated, make sure it’s 500x500 pixels or under, and 500kb or under

Make sure it's equal to or less than 500×500, and also use a valid format.
