Scratching is not necessarily violet. It’s also commonly used as a synonym to itching an itch (“scratching” an itch). Even when scratches are painful, they are typically just a little painful for a second or so, unless it’s a cut, but that makes it no longer a scratch.

snipI would consider a scratch to be, at most, a white line on your skin, and a cut to be, well, an actual cut on your skin.

The line has been drawn somewhere now, but just like wms's convenient bird workchart he uses everytime he gets faces with an argument he can't back out from, where does it go from scratch to cut?also last time I scratched an itch my arm it ended up looking like this as I scratched it too much:That makes it no longer a scratch. It is a cut.

We actually don't get very many complaints about Scratch as a name - none that I can recall. And we have a lot of time and money tied up in Scratch as a brand at this point. So let's please stop with the renaming suggestions.
