ASCII doesn't seem harmful what’s wrong with it also there’s a 500 character limit so it can’t do that much damage unless the ascii art itself is being spammed

ASCII can spell out words, which means people can spell out swear words with them if they weren't blocked.

There is no problem with ASCII that isn't inappropriate, but all ASCII is blocked because of the ASCII that is inappropriate.

Because inappropriate words and pictures can be formed with certain symbols. That is why ASCII art is blocked.

That sounds pretty stupid that’s like getting rid of project sharing abilities because some of them are inappropriate or getting rid of commenting because some comments are inappropriate doesn’t it make sense for ascii to follow the same guidelines if it’s inappropriate then it’s against the rules and if not then it’s fine. why is ascii targeted also if it is for that reason why is it considered spam wouldn’t it fall under the same category as saying a swear word or something?

The potential for inappropriate use way outweighs the benefits. Project descriptions are very useful and can tell people how to use the project. ASCII literally has NO use. If you're going to spell out a word with ASCII, just say the word. This is why it's banned.

ASCII does have uses maybe you want to emphasize a word or make it look cooler then using ascii would do that there’s also emoticons which can be sued to convey emotion and you can use ascii to create pictures you can already comment text and that would naturally extend to ascii so it’s not like ascii is an entire feature it makes no sense to ban all ascii just because it can be used to create swears also why make it so that all ascii is inappropriate just be use it’s possible to make swear words and why non inappropriate ascii why not remove commenting because it could be used to make disrespectful comments it makes non sense to ban all ascii

and iirc it also lags the servers

ASCII art can take up up to like 80 lines - when being spammed by many users in one comment section this is very bad. No one needs that many pictures of a dinosaur.

ASCII is also big and can be annoying, especially when it is spammed in random places.

ASCII art can not only be big and annoying and fill up a bunch of space on a comment section unnecessarily, but it also could be used to create inappropriate images or words. ST isn't big enough to moderate all ASCII art, and they can't really train the filterbots to only block out inappropriate ASCII art, as there are too many possibilities with it.
