Is 70MB too much?
Hi, I don't know if this is necessarily the right place to post this, but I figured it was the most suitable.
I'm currently working on an update to one of my games. It is around 60% complete and the file size so far is 70,042 KB, which is 70 MB.
All sources that I have read on the maximum file size for a scratch game contradict eachother, as one published this year said it was 50 MB, while another said 3.0 increased the limit exponentially. I have tried reducing the amount of blocks in some places and optimizing the game to some avail, yet I grow more and more worried on if the game will even be able to load on the average person's computer.
To anyone reading this, what do I need to do, if anything?

There is no overall size limit. The limits are A) No individual asset (a costume or sound) can exceed 10 MB (sound files are often the culprits here) and B) The project.json file (which stores code, information about sprites and assets, and list values) cannot exceed 5 MB before compression.
The 50 MB thing was the old limit from 2.0, but no longer exists.

It depends on the content of the 70MB. 5MB of code is the limit, and sound files (images too, but it's very rare that they are larger than 10MB) have to be less than 10MB each.

If you want to see the size of your project.json file, and other files, just download your project (File > Save to your computer), change the file extension from .sb3 to .zip, and uncompress it. In the uncompressed folder, there are your asset files (sounds and images) and a file named project.json. Finding it's file size should be as simple as your system's built-in file size display.
