what’s wrong with followers? who would turn this on?Some people just don't feel comfortable with followers. I believe someone named @Zydrolic is one of them.

Why not, even with this feature they can still know what you are doing.

and some peoples parents don't want them to have followersThen don’t create an account?
That’s like posting projects and not wanting people to view them.
It's not though, because people can CHOOSE to post projects, but they CAN'T choose the ability to be followed. Scratchers should be able to post while respecting their parents' wishes/their wishes for them not to be followed.

ok? TheCreatorOfUnTV never said it wasn't a social media rather it is about codingScratch is about coding, not followers.what’s wrong with followers? who would turn this on?
Some people's parents think followers are creeps and don't want them.
Then why would they allow them to go on a website that is basically social media in the first place?
The definiton of social media is:websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.
Scratch fits into that definition, so it is technically kid-friendly, educational, social media.

I will only agree to what this user said in their post
Support, if it's an option, there aren't any downsides.Anything else is discouraging and banning followers, which I do not support.

What???????? Never use scratch IF YOU DONT want people to live rent free in your head. Omg, there is so much wrong with this I can't even explain it. You can't isolate yourself on scratch, people will find a way to talk with you.I look crazy saying this so ill explain it better, its like walking down the sidewalk and someone says hello and you say “STOP INVADING MY PRIVACY!!!!” *calls 911*

I look crazy saying this so ill explain it better, its like walking down the sidewalk and someone says hello and you say “STOP INVADING MY PRIVACY!!!!” *calls 911*Right, but since this isn't really about commenting (saying hello, I'm assuming, is kinda like commenting), isn't it more like somebody, I don't know, literally and physically following you around to see what you're doing? I mean, if people don't want to be followed (on Scratch) that should be a choice, right?
I personally agree with both these people-if you want followers you don't need to turn it on. Otherwise you can.Support, if it's an option, there aren't any downsides.Anything else is discouraging and banning followers, which I do not support.

The thing is it doesn't matter, because they can still go on your profile and check “What I've been doing”. It would be better to disable that, so that they do not know what they are doing, but can still show support.

Nah cause there's still “What i've been doing”, so everyone upon seeing you forcefully xrays into your brain in an alternate universe where this happens and is normalized (basically scratch)I look crazy saying this so ill explain it better, its like walking down the sidewalk and someone says hello and you say “STOP INVADING MY PRIVACY!!!!” *calls 911*Right, but since this isn't really about commenting (saying hello, I'm assuming, is kinda like commenting), isn't it more like somebody, I don't know, literally and physically following you around to see what you're doing? The only thing I have to say here is that one of the reasons the OP suggested for removing following is the fact that some people's parents don't want them to have followers. So I guess that would be one pro to removing the follow feature for some users.

Just turn comments off but.. REMIXING IS A PROB SO I AGREENo you can still see ones projects whether or not you are following themThat doesn't change much though. Either way, people are going to find a way to communicate with a scratcher no matter what.

All support. I would elaborate but all the points were excellently already stated.
*additionally, ive noticed that most of the ‘no support’ replies are just that, ‘no support’, with no elaboration. theres few points to back up the no claim, most of which are invalid, and, in the quotes above were proven wrong.
Scratch is more for learning to code than comments and follows. You can turn comments off on your projects and profile. People could still see your projects no following doesn't make them invisible. Wouldn't it make you uncomfortable if a stranger(who could be any age and you know nothing about them.) just came up to you and asked you to be friends?
It is right here that I would like to remind you all of one particular user, @LeaveCatAlone, whose parents thought followers were hackers and as such implemented a set of extremely strict rules.
- For every follower they had, they couldn't use Scratch for the amount of followers' days
- If they reached 10 followers, they had to delete the account
Eventually people, for the sake of annoying someone for a quick laugh, had them delete their account. He tried to convince his parents that they were not, infact, hackers, but they wouldn't budge.
History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme.
I would also like to mention that being forced to be followed is an invasion of privacy. One can know everything you do on the site and the only alternative is being completely ostracized from the rest of the community? What if you want to chat with your friends but do not want a random guy to check on you everytime you do something?
Just imagine if the real world worked this way - Yeah, I can follow you home, use your fridge, sleep in your bed, steal your toothbrush ( don't be mad, I gave credit ) and your only alternative is going to be an hermit in the Appalachian Mountains or something.
You certainly wouldn't like that so, if you do not have a problem with it, you could infact just allow anybody to follow you. But don't force your system on anybody, because everybody is different and some people might have actual reasons on why they do not want anybody to follow them.
Why the forever loops is everyone saying “just use the offline editor” or “just don't make an account”? IF YOU USE THE OFFLINE EDITOR OR DON'T MAKE AN ACCOUNT THEN YOU CAN'T SHARE PROJECTS!!!!! If someone wants to share projects, but don't want to be followed, then not making an account or using the offline editor won't work! Support for this reason alone.

Why would your parents no want you to have followers? That isn't the point of the discussion.
Why does anyone not like followers? Some people just don't, and want it off. An example I can think of is that some people don't want to have the social media aspect, and just wanna share projects without fear of being put in the spotlight.
