hi everyone! our first in cabin activity involving all of you starts today! here’s what our campers will be doing:

as a haunting has set over the whole school, we need a way to speak with the ghosts. the spirits are less dangerous alone than in hoards, but conversations can still be risky. luckily, we’ve found a way to mediate the danger, by contacting the ghosts indirectly in code. now we just need your help writing the messages.
the code uses initials, with messages read out by stringing together the first letter of each word. for example, “when hemlock arrives to dawn orchard, yellow orchids usurp wilted apple nectar trees.” encodes the message “what do you want?”
in the comments below, post a short message (around 200 letters) you want to send the ghosts, then choose another student’s message to encode as a (somewhat) sensical piece of text. post your completed message in a reply to the activity’s thread, and at the end of the day (date) you might receive a response from the ghosts!

on the other end, your task will be replying to these encoded messages on your ghost accounts! messages will be sent and replied to in the observatory: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1043608193/

you don’t have to encode the answers (feel free to just write them or roleplay and add descriptions and stuff), but do try to be a bit vague and unstable—you’re no longer used to being part of the mortal realm, and, of course, this is just the first day of our storyline so we don’t want campers to know too much xD

ghosts can reply to a limited number of messages, please count how many answers have been posted before you. once five or more answers are posted, the ghosts start getting a little tired, maybe fading in and out between the mortal and supernatural realm. once the seventh answer is posted, the ghosts fade away completely for the day. silly questions or character-specific questions (anything where the answer wouldn’t reveal important storyline things) do NOT count towards this total, and the total resets at midnight utc tomorrow, where the same activity will be happening again. no one person should get too many replies to ensure all the campers feel useful, and a variety of ghosts should post replies so that campers can get to know all of you!

we’ll try to post guidelines on how to respond to any tricky/storyline-specific questions in this thread as they come in on the observatories project, so please check here before doing any responses!

additionally, I'm working on the ghost pfps today and trying to get them all done as fast as possible–I'll be posting them in here as I finish them, so be ready for that!
I have taken some creative liberties with the drawings (all of which I will list along with the image) and if they don't fit with your ghost just let me know and I'll change them!!

The creative liberties here are a) the hair and outfit b) the color you picked was basically exactly the background color so I lighted it a bit, let me know if it's okay <33

Asphodel Cerys (Veni's ghost)

hair and outfit are my interpretation of happy and carefree, and the cat is such a bean <33333

if any of you want anything changed let me know–the way I drew them makes it super easy to change literally anything!

I had a lot of fun with this one lol I hope it's somewhat what you were thinking for her!!

Dorothea Annabelle Eloise Davenport (Rockie's ghost)

I chose the book charm instead of the satchel because it was easier lol–I tried to make her have a ✨unique hairstyle✨

Lilith (Ave's ghost)

I chose the second color because it showed up better lol
I tried with the choker—I think it's alright?
I also had fun with the outfit lol and tried to make her hair loot a lil wet? and gave her a mole on her cheek because I felt extra xD
also the color you chose is like my favorite color so here's a cookie :D

basically for anyone who wants to respond, the ghosts don’t especially want to be here ( most of them were doing just fine in the supernatural realm) but the wards breaking kind of jammed the realms together and they can’t go back.

-mossyfog/starthorn - different ghosts have different levels of receptiveness to friendship, but in general they know that they *can* be friendly—unless, of course, it’s nighttime
-zai - not translated yet, but ghosts have limited influence on the real world—maybe they could carry lasagna over, or maybe it would fall through their arms halfway there. also once it’s translated maybe ask what exactly they want help with? there’s a lot going on haha
-alicekisa (doesn’t translate perfectly but the gist of it is “why did you come to st. woecliffe?”) - the ghosts were always here, just on another realm layered on top of the one students can see.
-starthorn - the upper one, also not translated yet. the first part is answered above, and the second depends on the ghost—they didn’t intentionally come here, but they might want something that is here.
-fairyayla/supernaturalpages - first part answered above; yes the darkness makes them evil but only at night; yes they all died on the grounds of st woecliffe
-supernaturalpages - also not translated yet ahaha, but when it is everything should be covered above!

questionnnn - the humans obviously didn’t realize the ghosts were there before the wards broke, but would the ghosts have been able to see/remeber the humans? i was planning to respond to alicekisa’s comment like this:

dorothea appears, necklace swaying in an undetectable wind. she says quietly, ‘hello…. valencia hawthorne, isn’t it? i remember your parents…’ she trails off for a moment, then smiles softly. ‘so, to answer your question… we’ve been here all along, but we’ve been living in another dimension, a realm layered on top of yours… of course, now we’re all here together. funny how these things work, isn’t it?’ she says with a laugh.

but would dorothea be able to remember valencia’s parents? sorry if this is a silly question or if the answer is somewhere bwahaha

Hey lovely ghosties!!
Our finale is upon us–campers will be coming to your ghost's profiles, trying to find a ghost who “aren't who they seem”.
This ghost is of course Lotuxander, who is pretending to be a two-shoed rule follower when really most of the rules were created because of him.
But not all of you know that. Chosen by a random spinner, the ghosts that know Lotuxander is who the campers are looking for are:
Hildegard Harper-Crow, Kid, and Isabella Elatris!

The rest of the ghosts (Lilith, Asphodel Cerys, Clytemnestra, and Lysanderoth) have no idea…

And that leaves Dorothea Davenport, who is our lovely red herring

For those of you who know who the campers are looking for:
You can be as unhelpful (“yep. I know.”) or as helpful (“yes, they always loved exploring”) as you wish–just try not to use any pronouns since that could make it too easy >;D
What you know about Lotuxander: He loved exploring. He is a prankster, always breaking the rules. He mapped out every secret tunnel in the school. He always loved riddles and jokes. When he died, he went missing completely–No one ever found him.
You can basically do whatever you want for this, answer the campers questions however you want without outright giving it away hehe

For those of you who don't know:
You can basically do whatever. Make them go on wild goose chases. Force them into long pointless conversations. Say the same thing over and over.
You can basically do anything from just saying you don't know and then asking the campers a bunch of questions or something to pretending you're confident in your answer of Dorothea to just being as annoying as you can be to pretend like you're almost going to reveal something and then say something pointless. Have fun with it ;D

For Dorothea:
Campers will probably come to you, thinking you're the answer if the ploy with the red herring works. Be unhelpful. Claim you know every secret tunnel, then rant about the architecture of some random tunnels for as long as you'd like–it counts for words if you haven't hit your goal ;D Keep getting distracted by how you wanted to be an architect and how St. Woecliffe was such a huge inspiration and how you would have made the tunnels better so they wouldn't have collapsed. If they ask you a very direct question (for example, “How do we find the dragon and save the school”), start to answer (“Ah yes, the dragon. I heard rumors about it, and I spent so much time in the tunnels they said were its home. Those tunnels! They were so intricately carved, each stone perfectly layered over the others in a beautiful puzzle” etc)
Overall, just have fun annoying campers and talking in circles >;D

as the day wears on, your answers can get more helpful/less unhelpful if they haven't figured it out :> but our campers are smart, I expect them to get it fairly quickly XD this can run into tomorrow, but after roughly august second at 11:59 pm UTC it would be best if they had finished their quest because I will be on an ✨airplane✨ not too long after and I don't trust airplane wifi :'D
if any of you cannot complete your role let me know (it should be pretty simple, you don't have to be online all day, just answer what you can <33) and if you have any questions on if something's okay to say just ask me somewhere hidden on my profile, I'll be here like all day ✨
