hello ghostly team! we're so happy to be working with all of you <3

first of all, here's a quick synopsis of our storyline so that you all can become familiar with the world of our cabin:

st. woecliffe academy, a school in an old castle with a storied past, usually has wards protecting it, but they have suddenly disappeared, leaving the academy vulnerable to attacks from the supernatural realm. the teachers try to protect it by casting a spell, but the spell isn’t strong enough (oops) and paralyzes them (oops again) so the students are the school’s last hope against the ghosts! campers create student personas and summon gargoyle sidekicks to help fight off the spirits, and throughout the session, they collect ‘heartbeats’ by completing cabin and swc activities. as the gargoyles level up they get new abilities, one of which is to venture away from their owner at night and search through the halls for magic goo stuff that is secreted by the ghosts and can be used to cast super powerful spells with the correct magic words. however, campers need to be careful - sending away their gargoyles means it’s more likely that a ghost will catch them alone at night, sucking out their soul and turning them into one of the ‘fallen’ ✨

there are also activities that we cycle through depending on the in-cabin time of day (day, sundown, night) that help campers learn more about the ghosts and st. woecliffe’s history! this is where you all come in - as ghosts, you all will be allowed to participate in some of gothic's daily activities (mainly encoded messages of various sorts), interact with campers, and act as decoys for the ghosts run by the gothic leadership team, which can provide campers with information they need to cast a spell with their accumulated magic goo that summons a dragon to protect the school! ghosts are mainly benevolent, though they become possessed by evil when the sun goes down :0

because campers don't know who is in control of which ghost (and therefore which ones have the information they seek), ghosts will have to create separate accounts that are used for interaction within the cabin ^^ the role will not be too time consuming and we'll let you know in advance of when you might be needed during the session. ghosts will occasionally receive information to give to the campers, but otherwise they can roleplay as their ghosts as much as they feel like it! just be sure to be very careful not to reveal anything about who you really are or anything ;D we need a bit of information before you create your ghost account - please post the below information when you have a chance:

1 - your ghost's name
2 - a bit of your ghost's personality and backstory (can relate to st. woecliffe or whatever past usage of the castle you can think of! feel free to make stuff up - st. woecliffe has a very long history and pretty much anything you can think of could fit in at some point!)
3 - a prominent feature of your ghost (big hat, bow tie, etc.) and a main color for them that mouse can use for their pfp

Name: Lysanderoth of the Golden Dawn
Died At: 17
Personality: Eloquent, a bit nosy, dramatic, a good liar, a dreamer, outwardly gallant, inwardly nursing a deeply sad and bitter spot
Background:

Lyon Ortus was expecting to become a ghost, when he died. After all, that's what all the stories said would happen. And really if he became a ghost because of some untoward exploring in the castle one night as a student, if he died doing something stupid and became a ghost because of some magic he shouldn't have been messing with because it really was that stupid and he really did believe that much that he could be an adventure hero if he tried, then it didn't really matter if the stories were still true in the end, right? Lyon Ortus fell asleep one night and woke up alone, desperately alone, passing through the walls watching while the school failed to find his body, watching as everyone slowly moved on. Lyon Ortus changed his name to “Lysanderoth of the Golden Dawn” one day because that's what all of the heroes in the stories were named and because “Lyon Ortus” was a bit boring, and there was nothing that Lysanderoth wanted more than to be noticed. For his one chance to stand on a hill with the sun rising behind him, the rays glowing gold against the endless sky, and for someone, anyone, even just one person, to clap.
He's still waiting. It's been 200 years.

Died At: 16
Personality: stuck up, refers to everyone else as ‘darling’, incredibly stubborn, never lies (but also doesn't usually tell the whole truth), a bit vengeful
Background:

Clytemnestra did not consider herself a bad student. Of course, there had been a few misunderstandings throughout her years at St. Woecliffe, namely involving a love potion, an exploding gargoyle, and a few rigged fencing matches, but there were no rules against arson and manipulation in the student handbook, and therefore there was no need for pointing fingers. If someone was to ask her, she would never claim to be a rule-breaker. If anything, she bent them slightly! That was an important distinction.
Yet, it didn't really matter in end, did it.

yep! you can interact as much or as little as you want/have time to, and we will occasionally give you things to say (ie clues or red herrings ;D)!
also also your ghost is so cool omg <33
and I don't believe it messes up our timeline (especially considering to my knowledge we don't have all too much fleshed about about the past of the school unless I'm forgetting something xD)

Name: Hildegard Harper-Crow
Died at: 14
Personality: A huge people pleaser, timid, unassertive, secretly craves validation, not particularly bold but will take risks for attention

Defining Characteristic: stolen spare key to her uncle’s study, which she still wears around her neck

Background: No one ever really liked Hildegard. Not her family, who sent her away to live with her uncle in a dreary, far-off, possibly haunted castle. Not her uncle, who, being busy with his duties as a reclusive scholar, made it perfectly clear that he had little time or patience to put up with a bothersome child. And certainly not the nearby village children, who had all sorts of superstitious tales about her uncle’s real profession. He was a vampire, a demon, a practitioner of dark magic, and they wanted nothing to do with his niece.

No one ever really liked Hildegard, but she wanted them to. So when one of the bolder village children dared her to sneak into her uncle’s private study, she did it without hesitation. For the first time in her life, someone was paying attention to her. Perhaps, if she pleased them, they would keep doing it.

She didn’t expect that the villagers might be right about the dark magic. And she certainly didn’t expect that she might not come out of her uncle’s study alive. But that’s all said and done now. The only thing that still bothers her, after all these centuries, is that no one cared enough to even try investigating her sudden disappearance.

This is supposed to be pre-Woecliffe Academy, I hope that that’s alright! If anything needs to be changed let me know

Name: Dorothea Annabelle Eloise Davenport
Died at: 16
Personality: super shy, curious, prefers being alone, a daydreamer, academically intelligent but not the smartest when it comes to navigating social situations

Defining characteristic: always carries an old brown leather satchel with her initials on it (if this is too big/complicated, you can just give her a necklace with a book charm instead lol)

dorothea was hard to befriend: it took a while for her to come out of her shell, but once she warmed up to someone, she could talk to them about her interests for days. people always told her that she was either too much or too little, but she never felt like enough.

dorothea felt more comfortable around buildings then people: their imposing facades and exciting details never mocked her or judged her like the other kids did, but they seemed to speak a different language, one of excitement and endless history. she supposed that was why she wanted to become an architect: she wanted to speak that language.

her favorite building to admire? saint woecliffe. sometimes, after her classes, she sat down in front of the grand entrance, just staring at the elegant castle. sometimes she ventured farther, into shaky, suspicious passageways to catch a glimpse of a grand staircase or a particularly beautiful ceiling.
once, she went too far: as she marveled at the elegant mosaic of faded stone along the wall of the ancient-looking corridor and trailed her fingers across a gorgeous statue, she didn’t notice the this area is forbidden due to unsafe conditions sign or the fact that the ground beneath her seemed to shift with her every step until it was too late.

but all that’s in the past. now, all she has are the buildings and the silence. if she’s being completely honest, she quite prefers it to being alive.

Personality: Happy-go-lucky, super innocent and carefree, really likes interacting with people, kinda chaotic energy, doesn’t really get the whole ‘being dead’ thing (mostly doesn’t mind actually), has somehow kept her childishness for over a hundred years

Defining characteristic: A slightly lopsided and messily made crown of flowers (and if possible: a small cat on her shoulders with a matching crown ;D)
Background:

During one of the many periods where St. Woecliffe sat ‘abandoned’, it was home to a small coven of witches. Among them, a talented potion-maker, and her over-eager child. Asphodel had been too young to truly start learning witchy things, no matter how hard she begged. Eventually, she became trusted enough to go out occasionally as an ingredients gatherer - a role she took with great pride.
The ‘expeditions’ (as young Asphodel liked to call them), were fun, of course - each day, she came back to her mother with an overflowing satchel of various mushrooms and herbs. Once, she even found a wet kitten, which was lovingly named Basil (after what Asphodel was *supposed* to be foraging for). The routine worked, for a while.
Unfortunately, Asphodel happened to be a curious child. She came back to the castle one day with her bag full of goods and cat on her shoulder, to find a glowing, unlocked cabinet - one that she’d never seen before. Well, who wouldn’t want to go in?
Knocking over the vials of who-knows-what was purely an accident. Someone probably knew a spell to fix the scorched room —
(As a matter of fact, no, they didn’t. The witches had fled Woecliffe apon hearing the explosion, fearing that their hideout had been discovered.)

Name Lotuxander Wren (pronounced Lotus-ander, may change spelling later lol) (goes by Lotus or Xander usually)
Died at 15
Backstory

Lotus was the biggest prankster at the school. As a student, he made sure there was never a dull day… for anyone. Legend of his pranks are still passed down throughout the school, and even in death, he's had a hand in quite a few of the most notorious ones. You could say he's the most famous (former) student. Or he would be. If he hadn't been erased from history.
You see, he explored things he shouldn't have. Many said that if he hadn't been a prankster and a slacker, he would be the most prestigious and powerful spellcaster in a thousand years. But he didn't really care about power and fame and all that. His curiosities lay outside his studies. Perhaps too far outside.
In the end, his curiosity cost him his life.
But all his exploring wasn't worthless, and he does know some things. And both sides (the shadows and the campers) know that this annoying silly prankster could assist them.
So to protect himself, he's now acting serious and strict. But acts can't be kept up forever…

Personality usually very open, friendly, goofy, and always looking for a good prank, but also sometimes spacey and distant and easily distracted! When he's pretending to be a different person for his own safety he's serious, strict, rule-abiding (ish), and withdrawn

Name: Lilith
Died at: 15
Personality: Sulky, childish, and only cares about herself. Outwardly seems vain and arrogant, but uses these to mask her insecurities and jealousy of others, as underneath she's always felt like an outsider.

Defining characteristic: A black choker (specifically, the one Lydia Deetz wears in the Beetlejuice musical (not the movie) —just because you (accidentally) mentioned it Veni )
Backstory:

A past student of St. Woecliffe Academy, the school hadn't been opened for long when Lilith fell into the lake on the grounds and drowned. Her body was found, there was a funeral held at the school, the lake was fenced off from students, life moved on—Lilith was remembered, and then forgotten, her memorial statuette gathered dust and her death went down in the school's history as a “tragic accident”.
Except Lilith has never believed her death was accidental at all. She stayed at school, as a ghost, hunting the halls for the one who she insisted had pushed her (she said they must have been “jealous of her grades”—although Lilith's grades were average. Sometimes she claims they were “jealous of her looks”—but Lilith's looks were average, too.). She swore she'd never leave until the culprit was found—even though she's been told, many times, that she tripped on a rock and fell in of her own accord.
She leaves a trail of lake stones and algae wherever she goes, and she can be identified by the clack in her walk—she always sounds like she has rocks in her shoes, even when she's not wearing shoes at all.

Name: Isabella Elatris
Died At: 17
Personality: very very focused and determined, when she has a goal she lets nothing stop her from reaching it. she prefers being alone in the library and spends most of her time there.
Background:

Isabella was determined to make it out of St. Woecliffe at the top of her class. She had held onto the spot for three years (despite that horrible grade her gargoyology instructor gave her in her first year–she swears she didn't mean to break off one of its wings!) and had only a single year left before she moved on from the academy when it happened–the heaviest book in the library, The Care and Keeping of Gargoyles, ironically, fell off a shelf and onto her head. She died immediately.
She solved her own murder pretty quickly as well–it was the one-winged gargoyle, holding a grudge against her for the three years it had been unable to fly. Since she spent all her time there, her spirit was tied to the library, which was just fine with her. Over the past fifty-ish years, she's spent her time reading and has made it all the way through the books in the east wing of the library.
With the limited impact she has on the mortal realm, she occasionally helps students in search of a specific book by pulling it out from the shelves and letting it drop to the floor, and they refer to her kindly around the academy.

personality: snotty, annoying, stubborn, sneaky, overly excitable and avoidant of negative thoughts / feelings
background:

kid cannot remember who he was in life. every day is a new day, so why look back, right?
at one point, he had a name, and a mother who taught at st woecliffe, and friends in the nearby forest. every day was filled with laughs and lectures, races through the school’s hidden passages and hours of bothering the older students. now, his days are much the same, though centuries have passed.
