Make New Scratchers have to gain Scratcher status to have a pfp
No support, what harm could be done with a pfp? If it's THAT bad, just report.
It can take weeks or months to get Scratcher status, that's too long without being able to customize your profile.

Reporting doesn’t always work, especially if someone is the only person to stumble across the pfp.
In fact, this entire proposal was actually partially inspired by someone complaining that an offensive pfp had been up for multiple days. I wasn’t affected by the situation, but it did give me a sort of “ Eureka “ moment.

Barring all new scratchers from having their own pfp sounds like an overkill solution. Also Scratchers can abuse their pfp aswell. No support, what harm could be done with a pfp? If it's THAT bad, just report.

Yes, but a normal Scratcher is less likely to be a troll. Plus, considering the fact New Scratchers already can’t do things like make studios or cloud variables, solutions like this aren’t that unusual.

If this was added, would it remove pfps that people started using already? Or would it only effect the new accounts?

Only new accounts.

Feeling netural about this. Yes, it could theoretically discourage some people from using CG breaking profile pictures and prevent some trolls, but also has disadvantages and could do more harm than good as some users might annoyed or frustrated by this.

Instead of waiting to gain the Scratcher status (which can take a month to get in some cases), a freshly-created account should have to wait a day or so to chose a custom user icon. After that, they are free to change it. This will slow down the trolls (they probably wouldn't be patient enough to wait that long and would give up, especially with all of the new account restrictions), while also allowing the “good” users to express themselves in some way. Maybe if default icons are added, users could have something on their user icon while they're waiting.

This sounds like a good idea.

Full support.
This can do a lot to prevent people from sending inappropriate images using their pfps. Some people have mentioned how pfps are used to express yourself, so aye while you are a new scratched there is are a few approved pfps that ST can let new scratchers have until they reach full scratcher status. Also most people don't spend too long being a new scratcher, most get the full status in a month or less.

In my opinion, if it were to be implemented, it should only affect new accounts that joined and existing new scratcher accounts can still keep their pfps.

I guess it's up to the Scratch Team to determine how many of these trolls pop up, and whether this feature will be worth the potential frustration. I trust they'd be able to make a good judgment. I don't remember how common inappropriate profile picture trolls are, but others in this this thread have said that “they have never seen one” or that “they must be extremely rare,” which I can definitely say is Feeling netural about this. Yes, it could theoretically discourage some people from using CG breaking profile pictures and prevent some trolls, but also has disadvantages and could do more harm than good as some users might annoyed or frustrated by this. not true.
The other proposed idea of allowing New Scratchers to only choose between a selection of default profile pictures sounds like a great solution to me, and would likely eliminate most frustration.
Ah ha, I just stumbled upon this topic that seems to indicate that inappropriate profile picture trolls definitely are a problem that should be considered solving: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/768157/

Why not restrict New Scratchers to changing pfp's after a week with some activity?I guess it's up to the Scratch Team to determine how many of these trolls pop up, and whether this feature will be worth the potential frustration. Why not restrict New Scratchers to changing pfp's after a week with some activity?
That’d be cool, but I do have a question: what would be considered enough “ activity “?

The point of these restrictions is to be ambiguous. However, an example could be to 2 projects shared, or 25 comments. Why not restrict New Scratchers to changing pfp's after a week with some activity?
