I don't see the difference, they both do the same thing, so why are they separate blocks?

Move steps button will move the sprite where it is pointing. Like it will not move up and down without changing direction. But x and y allows you to change the sprites positions without having to change direction.

Long before scratch I knew about x,y,z axis probably because I am bigger than you in age

I did use the x and y axis in graphs though.

There should be a simple answer I just can't find it.

move ten steps will make the sprite move forward regarding the way it's pointing. Change x position changes the X position and doesn't care how it's facing

The move steps block moves in the sprites direction, meaning you can move in more directions, 360 to be precise.
