I had the site muted (by right-clicking on the tab and clicking “Mute site”), but I unmuted it to listen to a music-sharing project.

However, the “Mute site” button is grayed out, like shown below.


Is there a way to mute it again so I can listen to music while viewing a Scratch project? I honestly don't care if I can unmute again (I shouldn't be listening to music-sharing projects anyways, I should be reporting them).

I've muted and unmuted the site a few times without issue. I'm not sure why the button is grayed out. Does the site need to currently be playing sounds in order for the button to work? Is the button still grayed out when sound is currently playing?

I can mute the site without any sound playing, so perhaps it is just on their end…

This sounds like a Glitch; perhaps this topic is better suited to the BaG forum, not QaS.
Users on the BaG forum will usually give advice on resolving the problem if they know it, so the Answer aspect of QaS is found there too.

But this seems more like a glitch/quirk with the OP's operating system rather than a glitch on Scratch. Questions about Scratch seems like the right fit for this issue.

Or, (and correct me if I am wrong) in Chrome. Personally, I've never had issues with chrome's mute/unmute site feature.

Oh my god I forgot you can't do ctrl/cmd + green flag to mute anymore, but a few things:
1. Mute site mutes all of the tabs associated with the site I think
2. Does this happen with other websites?

Yes, in chrome.

CHROME: if you mute scratch.mit.edu, all scratch.mit.edu tabs are muted (but not sites like sip.scratch.mit.edu)
FIREFOX: only the tab you mute is muted
EDGE: only the tab you mute is muted
SAFARI: you cannot mute tabs

I mean, I am pretty sure it is mute tab in other browsers though, not mute site, though the latest Firefox ver I have is like 84 or sth
