blindfolder is nowadays considered the easiest demon level, i recommend going for that.

i'm not doing a platformer demon because platformer mode checkpoints don't work for me

Check to make sure you don't have “Disable Checkpoints” enabled in the pause settings menu. GD seems to really like turning that on randomly for some reason.
