There's a curve of musical inclination for rappers
Most of them, like Kanye or Doja Cat or most mainstream rappers
Have some understanding of music theory and composition and metre in poetry and stuff like that
Then you have the incredibly brilliant and musical rappers
The only one that comes to mind is Kendrick
Kendrick is so incredibly brilliant in his understanding of music that he became the only musician not in the classical or jazz genres to ever win the Pulitzer Prize for music.
Then there's the lowest tier
The people who don't know what keys, notes, or even rhythms are
Eminem is one of them
Here's the problem
His lyrics are the most abhorently set lyrics of all time
And not only are they abhorently set, they also do nothing to add to any kind of value that you could maybe derive from the thesis of the songs
Let's take a very famous song of his, “The Real Slim Shady”
Let's break down the chorus of this incredibly famous song
“I'm Slim Shady”
Okay that's not awful
“Yes I'm the real shady”
A little repetitive but it's not the worst thing
“All you other slim shadies are just imitating”
Now listen to how he says imitating
It is not, by any stretch of the imagination, the way that word is emphasized, nor is it a poetic reassignment of syllable emphasis for any kind of value in the metre or even rhyme seeing as “imitating” is at best a very distant slant rhyme of “the real shady”
I would go through more examples, but this message is long enough and frankly is enough for me to wholeheartedly agree that Eminem belongs on the top five worst rappers list
