Rethink Blocking Scratch as an Image Host
(#59)Even if the median size were 10 MB (reasonable), it would still be a lot.(#55)False, projects take however much they need. A small one I just downloaded takes 4.8 MB, while Appel is 11.5 MB, PTE++ is just 183 KB, and AspectOS 0.33 Beta is 84.1 MB. It varies.(#54)And a project takes 50MB of storage. And multiply that by 1000. Thats 2 GB of storage. Still a fairly large amountImages don't waste This still may be rejected.that much space. A 1080P PNG picture only takes up around 2MB of storage. A project, especially those as massive as Chirpy Reverie, takes up a lot more space.9.5 Allow files to be uploaded into forum posts
The Scratch Team would have to pay for storage of these files, and they only have a limited amount of resources to do so. Storage space would be better allocated toward Scratch projects, anyway. There is also the issue of someone uploading a file that can potentially cause harm to someone's computer. Searching through these files would require significantly more moderation work, and there are not enough moderators able to do the job at the moment.

I have an Chrome extension which allows me to directly upload images to assets and it's really annoying having to go back to Cubeupload

Rethink Blocking Scratch as an Image Host
Adding onto the OP, those other Image hosters such as ImageShack and Cubeupload are typically blocked by school filters. So the images won't show up regardless.

Just tried with a cdn2 URL. Wait, doesn’t cdn2 work?
Nope.
Also, the project maximum file size used to be 50MB, back in 2.0. Now, it's 5MB for the project.json file (contains your code, all comments in the editor, sprite settings, sprites, and file paths to costumes and sounds as well as metadata about them both). No asset (costumes and sprites) may exceed 10MB, but that's pretty generous (for costumes, at least) considering that the Scratch stage is 480 by 360 pixels- not near the size of the lowest quality High Definition (HD) images, and those are about 10MB as raw data.

Support due to not only ease of uploading with the extension but mainly since it allowed SVGs to be hosted

why did they even remove it? spam?
no
its unwarranted removing ease of access to uploading images yet still allowing other image hosters

It seems a real shame you can't link to project thumbnails in your forum posts anymore.

Rethink Blocking Scratch as an Image Host
Cubeupload barely works sometimes and I have nothing else to use. No way am I paying for Imageshack or whatever other paid stuff Scratch wants to offer me. We've been running low on available image hosts since the shutdown of tinypic, I wasn't around for tinypic but I know it was used often a long while ago just by stalking the forums. If Scratch Team isn't going to offer us a new free image host, a feature like this might be necessary. Don't take my word for it, but I once heard someone say that they're considering shutting Cubeupload down. That means every image me and many others have ever hosted on the forums, gone, and no more image host for us to use. Scratch Team, please, we need another option for us people who can't afford all of your paid image hosts.

And for people who have school computers, I mean, I can't upload on my school computer to assets.scratch but I can still see the images uploaded their, but I can't see Cubeupload, or any other host's images. Scratch Team, please, we need another option for us people who can't afford all of your paid image hosts.

Apparently https://assets.scratch.mit.edu/scratchr2/static/.%2E/.%2E/ doesn't work as a substitute anymore.
