I keep sweating over being conservative over this because I thought the max was 50… Right? Google says there is no limit to how many variables a project can have?

I don't think there is a limit, even if there is, you can have a list and use each item like its own variable.

There is no limit on normal variables. However, you can only have up to 10 cloud variables.

There's no limit, although at around 24 it becomes nearly impossible to change the dropdown on the set and change variable blocks.

Omg I just remembered about that being in 3.0 rather than the 50MB limit
Also, LOL, reminds me of my project that has hundreds of variables and some names of ScratchX blocks.

You aren't allowed to name browser extensions

Also you might want to consider lists depending on your use-case

Also, can't you test this by just typing some variable's name, enter, then just some letter, enter, etc? Sorry if this explanation was horrible.

There is no limit, but if you add a lot of variables, it can possibly lag your project, as shown in this project made by my old account. https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/559329450

I am making a 3d engine, and it currently has 53 single variables and 12 lists. Is there any limitations I should be watching out for?

2. There is a 5 megabyte maximum size for the UNcompressed project.json file, which points to (but does not contain) all of your costumes and sounds, stores all of your sprites, and stores all of your blocks and comments. Some people will say that the maximum size for the entire project it 50 megabytes, this was correct in Scratch 2.0, but is no longer true.
