Share your thoughts on my latest game, "CODENAME : DROID" here!

https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/936664880/

Codename : Droid
You play the role of Commander John Stryker, commissioned by the Allied Nations to undertake a perilous mission that may give the Allies a fundamental strategic advantage over the Volgans.

Your task is to locate and seize the Volgan's new spacecraft (codenamed Z11) which is equipped with a revolutionary matter/anti-matter warp drive facility.

You have landed on the planet Volga, and you must now penetrate the Volgans' underground defence systems, find the spacecraft and requisition it.

You can jump, run, kneel, crawl, climb up and down ropes, ascend and descend by using lifts, drop mines, fire your laser blaster and pick up any objects that you find.

You can also access information via your wrist terminal computer, and you can fly for short distances by using a jet-pack.

Full instructions in game.

Disclaimer: This is NOT an exact recreation of the original game. It has been made using a “modern” platformer engine and as such some parts of the game may be easier to navigate than they were on the original game, and some parts of the game have been changed to take this into account.

I have tested this thoroughly and can confirm the game can be completed in the way originally intended!

This is a complicated game, and I'm happy to provide clues and hints on request in the comments.

If you encounter any bugs please let me know. Above all, I hope you enjoy the game. It's taken me many months to create!

So I expect you're looking for hints or something. Alright then.

  1. Save your bullets where you can, by using the land mines.

  2. Beware of falling machinery! Remember you can crawl under low ceilings… Press the down button twice to crawl (on flat surfaces)

  3. Plan your route. Keep an eye on how many lift passes you have.

  4. To get past the stomping pillars, lean against them while they're down.

  5. Once you've extended the rope in the Ancient Shrine you can gain access to the spanner you passed earlier.

  6. You need to use the jump boost from the spring to get to the second key two floors below. When you get the key and open the hidden door, do not be tempted to use the jet pack straight away, but go back to the previous level first.

  7. The Herbert Droid needs repairing before you use the remote control. But even if you do that bit wrong, you can still get past it by placing a landmine next to it and stepping on it, which will destroy it.

  8. Don't waste fuel when using the jet-packs, as there's only just enough to get done what you need to do.

  9. When you get the jet pack in the Crews Quarters, you need to go down to the lowest level first and collect the spanner. Then grab the fuel on the way back and go up a level. Don't linger, but grab the lift pass on the high platform, go up another level and you should have just enough time to get the lift pass in the pit there, and get back up again before the fuel runs out. This sequence is perhaps the hardest part of the game.

Enjoy!

Some people just want to wreck stuff. I'll report it to the scratch team if it happens again.

There's one piece in each zone. On the Surface Defence level 3 you need to get the mystery box and then return to the elevator you just came down and go up twice.

I can't think how you would have missed any of the others.

Solution taken from “The Micro User”.
This is more or less accurate to my version!

This way details the *alternate* way to get past the Herbert Droid. The proper way to get past the Herbert Droid is to fix it with the spanner first before going back and collecting the remote control.

First a number of general points: Shoot on sight all Volgans that stand in your way - if you don't they'll shoot you. Don't, however, attack any Volgans that are not going to be in your way. There's no point in looking for trouble - you'll run into enough as it is.

And remember that if you kill a guard, move to another level and then return. The guard will be back in place. This is especially important when a Volgan is guarding a lift.

Pick up everything you find, especially the security pass cards. There are a great number of them and not one is spare. Try to conserve your laser energy by using the six mines carefully. The jetpack uses fuel even if you are stationary, so keep on the move.

Take particular care with the metal blocks and cranes hanging from the ceiling at intervals throughout the complex. Always crawl under them and keep crawling until you are clear, or they will fall and crush you.

Consult the maps hidden in the microfilm cassette regularly. They allow you to check the positions of the guards and to plan your overall route.

Now on to the game. On Sector One of the Surface Defence get the pass card then descend to Sector Two. Fight your way across, collecting the energy cell, microfilm and security pass card. Beware of the metal block.

Take the lift down to Sector Three, turn around immediately and shoot the Volgan guard. Take the crate, which will give you two energy celIs and six security pass cards. Go back to the Iift, go up two levels to the left-hand section of Sector One and pick up the energy cell and the first set of plutonium rods. Return to Sector Three, pick up the energy cell and take the jet-pack. Take the Navigation Rom and descend to Sector One of the Ancient Shrine.

Fly past the two gaps with the Volgan soldiers until you reach the other jetpack. Ignore it for the moment, drop your current pack and take the energy cell. Find and collect both pass cards, take the second jet-pack, return to the lift, and descend to Sector Two. Fly left, then up, to collect the pass card then continue left and get the key.

Run back to the lift and descend to Sector Three. Make your way across, avoiding the stomping pillars, but don't forget to pick up the two pass cards. Find and flick the switch to lower the rope, climb it and collect the spanner. Go up the lift to the other side of Sector Two.

If you collected the key from Sector Two, the pillar in front of you will now open. Take the second set of plutonium rods and the spring - in that order. You will find that every jump takes you much higher: You literally have springs on your feet. Go straight down to Sector One of the crew's quarters.

Run along the long passage at the top of the screen and be prepared to shoot on sight or set three mines and wait down the rope for the Volgans to kill themselves. Take the lift down to Sector Two. Take the key and the passcard in that order, and open the doors to the jet-pack.

Return to Sector One and retrace your steps along the top passage until you are standing where you first entered the crew's quarters. Go down into the relaxation area, and work your way carefully across to the energy celI and the remote activator. Run back along the main passage for the last time, and climb down into the right-hand section of Sector One. Dispose of the two Volgans, then walk up to the Series 7000 Herbert droid. Drop a mine right next to him, walk on to it and he will explode.

Pick up the crate from the far side: Once again you will be two energy cells and six pass cards richer. Go back down to Sector Two, take the jet-pack and go quickly down to Sector Three. Pick up the pass card from the floor of the small room and go straight down to Sector Two of the missile factory.

Collect the spanner and the fuel, in that order, and go up to Sector One of the missile factory. Pick up the security pass card and go back even further to Sector Three of the crew's quarters. Pick up the energy cell. If you picked up the remote activator from Sector One of the crew's quarters, the lamp head will attach itself to the chain, allowing you past.

Pick up the floppy disc and the third set of plutonium rods and go back down to Sector One of the missile factory. Push the two control buttons - first the left-hand one, the second one you come to, then the right. If you push them in the wrong order you will be crushed by a crane. Keep heading left, making sure you pick up the energy cell, until you come to the lift.

Descend to Sector Two. Take the security pass card and the fourth set of plutonium rods, making sure you crawl under the cranes. Return to the lift and go down to Sector Three. Your way is blocked by a crane, so go down to the computer and put the disc into the drive: The crane will now rise. Proceed, and you will find an energy cell and the new Z11 spacecraft.
