Does Scratch do something for April Fools every year?

I remember when Scratch added a few things just for April Fools such as the cat ears on hat blocks, and new visibility/work space options, but this year, I don't see anything different. Did I miss something, or did they not plan for anything this year?

Don't they usually do something every April Fools day, or is it just every once in a while?

The evil kumquats got to them and told them to cancel AFD. AFD is gone forever. Participate in what is left of AFD while you still can.

Yeah usually. Maybe this year they didn't have time because of the overlap with easter?
(The semicolon's back, at least!)

Hi! I'm Fun Cupcake and I pop onto the forums every now and then to ask questions or try and help out.
My goal is to help people out and brighten their days!
Also, I do in fact have a voice-acted series. It's a fantasy story and I'd love it if you'd check it out!
You could also check out Sprinkle Town, a town game I created inspired by Stardew Valley! (It's still in very early development stages.)

In the past they have done something every year (some years it was pretty simple things while other years it was very elaborate), but this year the development team seems to be stretched pretty thin, so they weren't able to add any new features this year. The moderation is also stretched kinda thin as far as I'm aware, so they weren't able to put extra moderation resources towards any special April Fools' Day stuff.

As Maximouse has said in a recent thread it requires a single variable to be changed. I’m sure changing one variable would be a large investment risk, especially for a company such as the Scratch Foundation. The amount of money and time required to accomplish such a feat would be rather large because of the given task’s challenging nature.

There is a studio and the semicolon, but that is it from what I can see.. If you're wondering about the jokes thing or the clap thing, that's from an extension.

medians: I knew it would happen. I was the one who started it last year.
Fun_Cupcake_i81: Well then if you didn't want it back maybe you need to time travel to last year and fix that

Oh wait if you could time travel I think we all know exactly when you would go-

The semicolon is automatic. It doesn’t require any work from the ST. let me find source rq

As someone who works in the software industry, this kind of thinking is extremely dangerous. This kind of statement is often made before deploys that cause major disruptions due to unforeseen circumstances.

I believe the semi colon is automatic so the scratch team didn't do anything really.

To be fair maximouse has also said today that a new cat block for high contrast would have to be created and overall high contrast makes the implementation of cat blocks more tricky.

Do they not have a test website???? I don’t have a source for this but it would make logical sense that they have a test website

It's not just that, it's also the fact that the act of deploying in and of itself is not without risk and disruption.

They couldn’t take like two days to prevent the flooding of the forums and overall disruption over the community over the lack of features on a day each year that is usually filled with new features?

That's kind of a bad reason to add something. It's a little bit entitled to tell the ST to add features otherwise you'll spam the forums…

I’m not threatening to spam the forums, I’m pointing out the fact that the forums are currently being spammed with new threads asking where the cat blocks are. It’s almost as if not adding the AFD features did the exact opposite of what they wanted

There haven't actually been that many topics. I count seven topics on the first page currently related to the topic.

This is nothing compared to what would happen if AFD was on the forums. I've probably posted 50+ posts about AFD today, but there's naturally going to be questions about a new feature. Scratch can't just disregard everything if they think there might be a couple questions. That's what forumers are for, to respond to the questions and report them to be closed once resolved.

There’s still a higher average of topics, especially ones that the ST has to close, adding more stress onto the ST

You do realize that closing a topic takes about 30 seconds… programming changes to the Scratch website takes lots of time and money.
