I don't see the point.

I don't exactly see the point in not having any festivities for AFD this year. Anybody else? I know they aren't occuring on the forums - and I'm fine with that - but why not the usual editor themes and cat blocks? I mean, at least we have the semicolon, but still…

This doesn't make sense in my opinion, all of the code already exists for it all to be added back again, it probably wouldn't take too long. Though, I'm not a developer.

To be fair, that quote seems to be for the forums specifically, rather than the rest of the website.

The code was made before the high contrast changes, so it would probably need to be updated to work correctly in the current version of the editor.

The “mode” code you sent me on a different thread worked fine with purple. Or is that due to the extension?

So they code the exact same thing multiple times? Why would they do that?

No clue. Other users such as Maximouse seem to disagree with Za-Chary on this so he may be wrong.

I wonder if my post is getting misunderstood. Of course they don't re-code the cat blocks from scratch every single time they bring them back. But the Scratch Team needs to manually make the changes that put them on the Scratch website. That is, there is nothing that enforces “If the day is April 1st, then automatically update the website to include cat blocks even if no Scratch Team member is online at the time.”

Updating the website is done manually, to my knowledge — and as has been brought up already, the code for the cat blocks already exists, so theoretically (and perhaps naïvely) it would not take that long to update the website to include them. But of course I'm not a developer, so I have no idea how much work is put into making sure the cat blocks work. It's just my understanding that the process to update them is not automatic, which is what I was initially trying to say.

I do not doubt you’re correct, but the semicolon has been discovered to be automated, so it’s not necessarily true that nothing’s automated.

Good thing I didn't claim that for everything. I'm only referring to the cat blocks and most “major” website changes specifically. (The fact that only the semicolon appears to be automated also suggests that all other April Fools' Day festivities are not automated.)

People have been talking about it all day. https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/7895294/

If you set your computers date to April 1 in let's say November it also appears.

This happens if you switch to Caturday mode and back to Normal:
