i am just wondering since there will be no april fools day forum this year according to an announcement and also there have been much better april fools for scratch like the pico one and they have been repeating pranks in recent years so why is the april fools on scratch so underwhelming

hopefully at least there will be _ksllxmfcai_ and scratchcats profile open

I think this happened starting 2020 or so, but before that I believe festivities lasted throughout April 1st. Regardless, this year is an odd year anyway since Easter is the day before AFD; as a result, Scratch Team members are probably not online often anyway.

Firstly, April fools on Scratch is a privilege, not an expectation, since it isn't necessary to the site or strives common Scratch goals, like educational value, promoting equality etc.

Secondly no April fools celebrations could come from many reasons. With the forums it was because of spam in previous years and how this lagged the website (especially with testing the forum's bandwidth due to this) and how this lag has degraded the forums with lag overtime. (source)

With the main site - the post I linked above does state that there will be an April fools day studio that people can add projects to based on a theme, which I would recommend doing, creating April Fools Day projects is fun (I had a blast making mine last year!) so if you still want to celebrate April Fools day I would recommend that. With the studio not being out yet it could infer that all April Fools day activities are coming out tomorrow, but that's just a theory.

Anyway, if there's no April Fools day features on the main site it could be that the Scratch Foundation has gone through many changes recently, like from having layoffs and from constantly changing the CEO. Former Scratch Team member @wheelsonfire has stated that there is a lack of leadership in the development team, so perhaps not partaking in unnecessary development time in April Fools day and instead focusing on more important stuff is the best action to take to imrpove the team.

Well for one thing since it's also Easter today, then any Scratch Team members who celebrate that are probably going to be busy with their families today so they don't have time to update stuff. So we'll probably see the fools start tomorrow (or later today, depending on your time zone.)

That ruins the special feel of April 1st. Scratch is actually used educationally, they won't even make Cat Blocks togglable because of this.

To respond to your exact question, here's what I got:

Underwhelmed is an emotion. No one can tell you why you feel underwhelmed other than yourself. We can speculate, or even make up our own questions to answer, but we can't answer you.

One reason that's possible is that you may be getting too old for the Scratch AFD pranks. I don't know how old you are, but what was fun(ny) to you three years ago may not be the same anymore.

That's one reason that I always enjoyed AFD on the forums (which I totally get them removing) is because I didn't really find cat blocks or Old Timey mode “fun” as a teenager. I enjoyed being able to create things that me and fellow forumers enjoyed rather than the ST.

There's no bad rap on the ST for this - they did what they needed to do. I know I can create a studio but frankly it's not going to get more than two participants.

Anyway that's just my take on why you might feel underwhelmed.
