Selling Things on Scratch?

Disclaimer: I wouldn't consider this naming and shaming since he's literally the most famous Scratcher. Feel free to remove this or let me know if you disagree, ST.

Recently, griffpatch made a new account @griffpatch-academy which is his new course about using Scratch. He doesn't link to it on Scratch, but his course costs $7. He's advertising his YouTube video about it everywhere, and it's obvious this is a marketing scheme to make money.

So how come it hasn't been taken down?

I know I could use contact us to report it, but I'm not interested in doing that. I want to know why this specifically is allowed.

Youtube and Scratch are 2 different things. Youtube has less strict rules than Scratch, and he isn't referencing/advertising it on Scratch. He knows what he's doing.

Griffpatch hath not linketh it, thyfore not a crime.
(since it's not directly linked in scratch, i'm not sure if it can be considered against the rules, although it's a middle grey area to me because he links his youtube channel which links the academy.)

He literally says in his profile “Have your parents sign up today!”

Also he's linking to youtube, so everything on his youtube page must follow Scratch guidelines.

If something is inappropriate for Scratch, you should report it. Just because it exists on Scratch doesn't mean that it's appropriate — perhaps the Scratch Team has not noticed the inappropriate content yet.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

I was a Scratch Team member from May 10th 2019 to October 29th 2021.

I'm sure hundreds of people report his profile every day - what am I going to do, report his WIWO where he says to ask your parents to sign up today?

The reason I'm asking this question is I'm wondering if there's a loophole since this is educational about Scratch.

I don't think that Scratch would care. It says:
Have your parents sign up today!
He's implying that you must get permission first.
Edit: Use contact us no matter what. ST will probably close this post and say “Use Contact Us” anyways.

So? Can I advertise my ebay store on my profile if I say "have your parents buy something at my store"?

You've got a good point; but it's the fact that it's educational for Scratch. eBay isn't educational. Griffpatch's course is.

Thy Griffpatch channel is grey to me, thyfore I am unsure.
(As i've said, this is a middle grey area to me as griffpatch YouTube channel also publicly advertises his extension, which isn't following ToU, and scratch may not do anything as he's the most popular scratcher on the platform.)

You mentioned using Contact Us, so you could use that to get an answer. That has the additional benefit of being able to mention specific Scratchers as opposed to posting about it publicly in the forums.

Not everyone would obey having their parents do that for them, and that also goes for what griffpatch is doing.

It's probably not allowed, but I also find it unlikely that something will be done about it, because he's griffpatch. He's mentioned nono word in a video before, and he seemingly hasn't faced any repercussions from that.

Signatures are the only place where assets links still work.

That's not good.
I would definitely use Contact Us.
