In Part 1 of Griffpatch's Scrolling Platformer Tutorial, he makes two variables that are “for this sprite only” called “x” and “y”. Although he made these variables in the “Player” sprite, they appeared in the “Platforms” sprite and he used them to signify the x and y coordinates of the platform with no issues even with no “set variable to” blocks. I am confused by this as this doesn't work in Scratch 3.0 although he says in the description that even though he is using 2.0, everything will work the same in 3.0. Can somebody please explain how he did this, why I can't do it, and a good workaround so I can continue to follow his tutorial?

Hi, I used that tutorial and had problems with it as well. What I'd suggest is that you either: try a new tutorial or try a different method. The way I make some platformers, is that I use something I like to call a transition border. This isn't exactly scrolling,but hear me out. Basically, you have a line at the top of the screen and have it poking out enough so the player can touch it. You could it on the sides or bottom as well. What it does is that you can code it to make it change your sprite/backdrop you are using for a level using messages. I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I hope this helps!
