Andrea could feel a world full of emotion far away. Where the dewdrops smiled while the embers danced. The earth would let out a great big yawn to let the world know it was there. The rolling prairies would be covered in light.
“Andrea, care to join the rest of the class?” Her teacher called out. Andrea was sucked out of her book and felt the cold touch of reality. She covered her face in embarrassment, the white board was laughing at her. She hated it, just a blank slate filled with words that made no sense to her. The class bell gave a shout as the class had come to an end. She sighed in relief and picked up her overweight bag. The bag was in taters and she wished to throw it away. But he’s felt empathy towards it, it seemed to be messed up and in need of care just like her.
The classroom leaked out the rest of the students. Andrea was caught in the rushing river of students. Their chatters, laughs, and tears seemed to overwhelm her. The world was sucked of its color with the students. Snatching it away from her reach. The blank empty hallway whispered at her. What a weirdo, she can’t even handle school it seemed to say. Andrea opened her locker and saw a splash of color. A book! She picked it up and the world whooshed back into color.
The scene seemed to change and she was once again, among the river of students. She inhaled for confidence and stepped into the cafeteria. It had too many bright colors, too many cackles, too many words. The lunch ladies served food of disaster, colored in disgust. The faces of the lunch ladies remained emotionless, it seemed the filter was set onto greyscale. Andrea got into line and closed her eyes. Any moment away from the world was worth it. She was submerged into the prairie in which she longed to stay in.
But the moment did not last. She was zapped once again by the lunch lady. She quickly grabbed a tray as the lunch lady dumped what may have been mashed potatoes or radioactive waste. Andrea slumped back to a table that was empty, except for the gum and food that covered the seats. She did not care for it was to bright to her. And unreal, she reached into her bag and pulled out the book. She opened the book and was submerged. Back into the place she belonged, she felt a tap on the shoulder and whipped around to see another girl. Dimmer than the rest of the room in a soothing way. She wore glasses and had her hair pulled back in a braid.
“May I sit here?” The girl asked, her tone of a sweet spring morning. Andrea nodded and the girl sat down. “My name is Emily, but you can call me Em.” She declared. Then looked over at her book. “Oh! Is that Robert frost?” Emily jumped for joy when she nodded.
“I love his poetry,” she said shyly, then the light changed, into one of comfort and joy. The cafeteria was too bright but she didn’t care for once. “My names Andrea.”

Chapter 1
~~~~~~~~~~
Russia stared at the computer as it was analyzing his scores. It made a loud bing and a screen appeared. “Yesssss,” He said pumping his fist as the computer read out his score. “You got 100% on the math test, good job!” “Like always,” he said grinning and pushed his chair back. The computer dinged again and lit up with a screen. Pop quiz, like always. What are all the countries on earth? Hint, there’s only five. “Indonesia, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, Australia,” the screen flickered out and came back up with another 100. He wasn’t surprised and and brushed his black bangs out of his face and trampled down the stairs to find his mom also on the computer. Her glasses reflecting the bright screen.
“I got a 100 on the math test again!” Russia said excitedly, although it was nothing new. Test after test after test he got 100, there was only one occasion where he got a 99 but that was becouse he forgot to put his name down.
His mom was still staring at the screen when she replied, “That’s great honey, could you leave me alone for a bit? I have to concentrate otherwise I’ll miss something important.”
Russia wilted, “Ok mom, I’ll go outside.” He said disappointed. The door made a loud creak as he opened it. He stepped out on the wet grass and found an envelope in the mailbox. “Huh? We never get mail.” Russia said to himself. What was even stranger was that the envelope read out to Russia Milborn Swahili. “Well guess it’s mine,” he sighed opening it.
The envelope had a golden border with the word math sprawled on it. The letter inside was a plain white page that said you have been invited to math camp in Stoneville! “Wow,” he gasped, then started hopping from joy. He sprinted inside the house and waved the letter “Mom, mom Ive been invited to a math camp!” His mom was still on the computer and she paid no attention to what he said. “Mom look,” Russia said shoving the letter in her face.
“What’s this?” She said squinting, “Oh a math camp, you can go honey.”
“Yessss,” he said. Pumping his fist for the second time that day. “It says that we go tomorrow so should I start packing my bags?” He questioned. His mom took a long time to reply. Clicking the mouse a few more times till she said “
“Yes honey, go pack your bags.” He dashed up the stairs and threw some clothes in the bag. The sun was going down and it was about time for dinner. Of course Russia always got takeout. His mom was terrible at cooking. He zipped up the suitcase and went to ask mom for food.
Chapter 2
~~~~~~~~~~
Japan sat impatiently on the bus waiting for it to start. Tapping her finger against her pale skin. Her long blonde hair sweeping in front of her face She must have arrived early Becouse there was only 5 other people on the bus. Three boys and two girls, including herself.
“Hey rando come over and have a seat with me! You look lonely.” She yelled at the other girl waving her arms to snatch her attention from the book she was reading.
“Huh?” The girl looked up from the book confused, her brown bangs covering her glasses. “Who called for me?”
Japan sighed, “Me you doofus, now get your butt over here.” She shouted. The girl got up, clutched her book to her chest, and stumbled over.
The girl sat down with a loud “Ooof, these seats don’t have any cushioning at all.”
She laughed, “I have never found a bus in my life that had nice seats.”
“Me neither,” the girl agreed, “My names Germany what’s yours?”
“Japan,” she replied. The bus lunged forward as it started to move. It made a slight rumble as the engine worked. “Are you excited for martial arts camp?” She asked, waiting for Germanys reply.
Her face changed into complete surprise. “Martial arts camp? I was told it was an engineering camp.”
“Wierd, you sure your parents were not Lying to you?” She said, wondering what Germanys parents were like.
“No no they are super nice I don’t think they would lie to me.” She chuckled attempting to cover her unease that was obviously there.
“HEY STOP IT,” one of the boys in the front screeched as another boy was pinning his hands behind his back.
“Then you say sorry right now for trying to trample me while we got on the bus,” the other boy hissed.
“BUT I WAS’NT I WAS JUST GETTING ON AND ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED INTO YOU I SWEAR!” The other boy whined his strawberry blonde bangs slicked with sweat.
“What is going on back there?” The bus driver said, Turning the mirror.
“Shoot,” the boy said that was just pinning the other. When the driver looked away he got up in his face his brown hair brushing the boys skin, “You listen to me France, mess with me again and I will become your worst nightmare, you understand?” He pointed his finger menacingly at the boy.
“Y..y…yes sir,” the other boy gulped and sighed with relief when the boy sat down.
“Who was that?” She asked glancing at Germany.
“I think the brown haired guy was named America and the other named France.” She shrugged.
“Ok then, we might be in for a long trip.” Japan brushed her hair from her eyes and sat down.

Chapter 3
~~~~~~~~~
France woke up with a jolt as he found that the bus was stopped in a forest with beautiful oak trees swarming around the bus. Everybody was getting up and moving out of the bus so he followed. This was so exciting. He had never been to a science camp before. What would they do? Explode things? He stepped out in the damp mud, the forest would be eerily quiet if it were not for the two girls chattering away like birds.
“Hey chatterboxes shut it, the whole forest can hear you.” The one of the boys said. His name was America. How did France know that? Well when he got up close and personal with him he saw he was wearing a metal necklace that read America.
The girls glared at him. “I’d like you to try being quiet in this spooky forest, there is barely a sound so might as well make some. And by the way, the names Japan not chatterbox.” Then she went back to talking. Soon enough the group came across a strange clearing. There was not any grass only dirt and it looked like something was supposed to be there. “AHHHHHHHHHHH,” one of the girls screamed. France whorled around to see an unconscious man in a black suit on the ground and Japan breathing heavily.
“What was that?” He asked panicked. He glanced around to make sure there was nobody else hiding.
“That was one of our agents, he thought that you all were intruders. Apparently the news never got to him about the program.” A voice sounded behind them. The kids turned around confused to find a man, he had no stubble and his hair was slicked back with so much gel. It looked like if he shook it that it would drip down his face. He wore a black suit and tie with a white shirt underneath.
“Yes, I know, you may be confused as to why I’m here. You see, you have all been invited to various camps, martial arts, science, math, engineering, and grammar. But that is nothing of what this camp is.” Japan gasped and another boy looked sort of sad. The other girl looked betrayed and America pumped his fist in excitement.
“Then what is this camp?” Japan asked, crossing her arms, she did not look very amused by the news.
“You have all been raised in secret towns that were kept under high surveillance, you were all homeschooled with government programs for the smartest people. Your mom’s sent you to various fighting clubs so you would be ready.” The man said, the speech sounded like he had rehearsed it over and over in a mirror. He turned and walked away. The rest of the group stood there in silence.
“Are you waiting for the grass to grow? Come on, camp is this way.” The man gestured, still walking.
America shrugged to the rest of them and they all trotted ahead to catch up with the guy.
Chapter 4
~~~~~~~~~~
Germany sighed as the group walked for what seemed for an hour. “Is it not weird that all of our parents lied to us?” She commented, the other kids shook their heads.
“Yes you’re right, why do we get put into all of this stuff why do we not get a normal life like it seemed back in our towns.” Japan replied, she had this sort of aura of stubbornness and frustration that seemed to make her words twice as relevant.
“We don’t even know any of the other kids in the group, no offense.” One of the boys chimed in
“None taken how about we introduce ourselves?” Germany said, her feet were weary from the walk but she tried not to let it show.
“I’m Russia,” the boy piped in, his black bangs slicked in sweat.
“Germany,” she said.
“France,” the red headed boy said.
“Japan,” Her friend said.
“America,” the last boy grunted. “I’m not here to make friends by the way, I’m here to learn what ever I have to do and get out of here.” He said twiddling his thumbs in a way that showed a bit of nervousness. The rest of the group glared at him while France shrunk back. It seemed he was trying to make himself seem smaller. Made since from the way he got treated by America on the bus earlier that day.
The rest of the walk was in silence until they came across a roaring waterfall. “HOW COULD WE NOT HEAR IT FROM BEFORE,” she hollered, hoping they could hear her.
“I HAVE NO IDEA,” Japan replied, looking like she was screaming her lungs out in exasperation
“What the-“ Germany said, confused at what she just saw, the strange man had apparently disappeared through the waterfall. “I THINK WE MIGHT HAVE TO GO IN.”
“BUT IT MIGHT BREAK MY EARDRUMS,” France whined.
“STOP BEING SUCH A BIG BABY,” Japan yelled back. Wiping the water droplets that had splattered on her face. She started slowly walking backwards.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” Russia yelled, his face looked panicked
Japan started sprinting, heading for the waterfall. She plugged her nose and dived into the water fall
“JAPAN!” France hollered, “WELL SHES GONE WHOS NEXT?” The group looked around at the remaining four members. Suddenly America grabbed a hold of Frances torso and held him like a spear. “HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING,” He screamed, a mix of wanting to be heard and fear. America started running towards the water fall and hurled both him, and France into the waterfall.
Russia and Germany just stared, “Looks like we’ve knocked two birds out with one stone.” Germany said.
“Looks like I’m going in.” She backed up and tried to imagine the waterfall as a target and she was an arrow shooting into it. She started to dash, picking up speed as the waterfall started getting closer and closer, she braced for impact. BAM and the cold water hit her, she landed on a soft pad and laid there for a moment. Winded and shocked she stood up seeing the rest of the group waiting.
She heard a holler behind her and turned around just before Russia slammed into her. They tumbled past the mat and onto the cold hard stone.
“Why hello there,” he said grinning. “C..c..c..can’t b..b..breathe.” She stuttered out. “OH,” Russia said, quickly hopping up. Winded, for the second time that trip, Germany curled up into a ball, “I just want to dieeeee, my brain hurts, my body hurts, everything hurts.” She groaned.
“Well you’re in luck becouse we’re almost there.” The man said gesturing for them to continue following.
Germany got up with a grunt and shook her head of the weariness. She sped up her pace to land next to Russia. “Do you have any idea where we are right now?” She questioned brushing off some of the pebbles that stuck to her soaking wet clothes.
“No idea, I’ve asked people and they all say the same thing, I don’t know.” He shrugged. He tucked a piece of his wet hair behind his ear. “They seriously need to have a better entrance, my ears are still ringing. But I guess it makes for a good alert system, your wet clothes just scream. HEY LOOK THEY HAVE JUST ARRIVED. And is it strange how the guy taking us doesn’t have a single droplet on him?”
She scratched her head, “I have no idea. I’m as confused as you are.” She sighed.

Chapter 5
~~~~~~~~~~
America had speedily walked through the cave, keeping up pace with the guy leading the group. “So when are we getting there?” He asked.
“When we get there now shut, I’m trying to concentrate.” The guy said. He had seem lost in his own world for the trip. Maybe he was trying to remember the path? What did it matter anyways, he wanted to get out of this freaky place even before it started.
“Woah,” Japan said behind him as the light started growing nearer. A hidden paradise awaited them, beautiful lakes folded in front of them, meadows filled with flowers stood in he sunlight. “This is my kind of place.” She whispered loudly to Germany. They both grinned.
“Oh this is not where we are staying.” The guy said, still walking.
“Then where are we staying?” Japan pouted back.
“You’ll see in a minute.” He said glancing behind him to make sure no one had been left behind. He came up to a cave wall and made a series of clicking noises.
“This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” said France and then he gasped. The wall started to shake and rumble and in moments it had parted to show… a lesser place. It was a gloomy swamp hidden in the shadows. The reeds looked almost wilted and dead leaves were everywhere. The cabins looked like they were 50 years old and falling apart.
“No way this is where we are staying,” she said through gritted teeth, America couldn’t quite believe it himself.
“Then what was that paradise we just saw moments ago?” He sneered, pouting in anger of what was just out of reach.
“That was are resort for the higher leagues.” They stopped at two cabins,”Girls go to the cabin on the left, boys go to the cabin on the right.” He pointed. America slumped as he made his way over to the cabin. The government had all the funds in the world yet they didn’t get a cabin better than rotting wood. He walked through the doorway to find it was even worse on the inside. Cobwebs hung in the corners. Holes had been carved out by who knows what. Mud streaked the wooden floor. The layout consisted of three beds, and a mirror. He picked the nicest bed he could find, which looked like it had a burn mark, and sat with defiance.
“C’mon America, let’s go get our bags.” Russia gestured for him to follow. He got up and headed over to the rusty van which barely fit their bags. He hauled his bag over his shoulder, which was a plain army green color, and took it over to the cabin. He found that one of the boys had already claimed the bed he had found.
“Just great,” he sighed then threw his bag in the bed that had, what looked like, stains from a little kid’s accident. This trip couldn’t get any worse
March 2024 week three weekly
Clues and red herrings: the dead end was actually the entrance to the real hideout, all they had to do was kick it down. The hideout they did discover was a fake, they set up the computers to tell them the wrong time. When Tina asked for the files, she did that and knew he would check them so she set him off. When he called the chief, he was actually calling Joseph. The cameras at the dam had been messed with while they were moving the dynamite to the dam. The files on the table were actually props to confuse the police squad. He also knew that Jonathan was coming up behind Tina but he stayed quiet, planning his escape route when he pressed the button. The footsteps were real, they just didn’t put it together.
The scene:
The laboratory was blindingly white, unlike the first dim hideout they had found before. It had a modern look to it and the counters sparkled after being sanitized many times by the lab workers who had gone home for the day. The squad creeped through the long winding hallways. At every corner Edward jumped even if there was nothing there. Soon enough they came across a clean table with blood samples lined up in a neat row. Files were scattered across the surface, most of them the ones that had been stolen and were being tampered with at this very moment. There was nobody there and they all were confused. Didn’t the computers say the exact time was 5:00 pm sharp? Then they heard footsteps, silent at first then growing nearer and nearer until they saw someone walking in front of them. The officers quickly pointed their guns at him as he stood still, holding a remote in his hand.
“What are you doing here Joseph? Planning to carry out another one of your evil plans?” Jonathan sneered, Joseph laughed.
“I would put my guns down if I were you, you see this?” He held up the remote. “There are 20 tons of explosives right under that dam and this remote, has control over those explosives. They all gasped, “I altered the cameras to show nothing except the still water when we loaded them inside the dam, and oh look you have a perfect view of what just might happen.” He pointed to the window across the room they hadn’t noticed. It had a perfect view of the tall dam, the whole city would by flooded if it broke. They heard footsteps again.
“Sorry I’m late,” the woman said, carrying a gun pointed at the other men. She was wearing cargo pants and a tucked in shirt. She turned around to reveal her face. It was unmistakable, blonde curly hair with striking amber eyes.
“Tina,” he whispered, hardly believing it.
“Thought I was dating you for the fun of it, huh?” She snickered. “What I really was doing was gathering information.” She quickly pointed her pistol downwards firing a shot. It made a loud BANG and the squad jumped in alarm. “Y’all are all scaredy cats,” she teased.
“That explains why you gathered those files.” He whispered and obviously Tina heard him and she grinned even more.
“Oh honey, I was just doing that to tip you off, if it hadn’t have been for that y’all would be clueless right now.” She twirled the gun in her hand not taking eyes off of them. “Now tell them what you’re going to do Joseph.” She grinned.
“Well first we’re going to scare the guts out of y’all by pretending to press the button.” He sneered putting his thumb awful close to the button.
“NO!” Bailey screamed almost lunging then she pulled herself up. “Ahem, I meant no you cannot,” she pulled down her shirt.
“Why can’t I?” He asked tilting his head intimidatingly.
“You have to first, uhhhh, explain your master plan!” She blurted out, stalling.
She gestured to someone on the squad and he backed away. “Oh yes of course I have to,” he smiled, “Well it first started with, what Tina said, tipping you off with those files. She knew you would peek at it like any curious young man. But then when we heard you were trying to interview me in my prison, I just had to get out of there. So I went through my secret hatch that y’all probably didn’t find and went through the door.” He looked up at the ceiling as if he was daydreaming about setting off the dynamite.
“What door?” Bailey asked, obviously confused by what he meant.
“I honestly can’t believe that y’all are cops. All you had to do was give it a swift kick at the dead end and it would have popped open.”
Baileys face reddened in embarrassment, “Then what?”
“We then set up the fake news articles about the river to send you in the wrong direction. I knew y’all would take the bait so I set up a secret base with fake computers that were obviously easy to hack and they gave you the wrong time for the plan.” He motioned his arms to the files and blood samples. “I used that extra time to get some work done and I was prepared for y’all to show up and be amazed by my show.” He wagged the remote in her face.
“What do you even want?” She asked, breathing heavily.
“Power,” He cackled. “The people who have the power have the money and everything. I could send this city to their knees with it,” He boasted. Then Edward realized what Bailey was doing all along. She was distracting him so Jonathan could creep up behind Tina. Then one of his shoes squeaked.
“WHOS THERE!” Tina shouted whipping around before being on the receiving end of a swift kick to the head. She fell to the floor with a crash and her gun slid over to Edward. He picked it up and pointed it to Joseph. He laughed, “You think an extra gun is gonna do anything to me?” And then he held the remote up, and pressed the button. He dropped it to the floor with a clatter and a countdown started.
“10, 9, 8,” the robotic voice rang out.
“NO YOU DONT,” Bailey screeched then snatched the remote from the floor. She held it up in the air her face red with panic, “WHAT DO I DO!” She screamed, obviously the pressure was getting to her.
“I DONT KNOW!” Edward yelled back. The whole squad was in a frenzy. Joseph ran away, probably to cover before the area got flooded.
“5, 4, 3” the voice rang out again.
“YOUR NO HELP!” Screamed Jonathan. He put his hands to his head thinking.
“CRUSH IT! DO SOMETHING!” They all yelled. Then Bailey spotted a sink and sprinted over in a frenzy.
“3, 2, 1,” it rang out. Bailey fumbled with it and drowned it in the water. The voice cutting out on the last syllable. They all stood there in silence, waiting for an explosive to go off. They counted to ten and nothing happened. Bailey wiped the sweat off of her head, “Whew that was a close one.” They all sighed in relief. She glanced over to Tina, still unconscious on the ground. “At least we caught one,” she shrugged. “Now let’s get our scared butts out of here.”
The plot line:
Exposition: When Edward is alerted that Tina needs her files, he looks through them and finds out about Joseph. He calls the chief but he brushes it off, but the police officer Bailey thinks he has a lead, and they start working together.
Rising action: when they plan to interview Joseph from his prison but then he escapes and they have no idea how. They explore the scene and find a button that opens a door, but when they explore it they come across a dead end. Then they look at news articles and find something about the animals near the river acting weird. She calls the squad and they search the river and find an opening to an underground base. It’s empty but they find many computers, he hacks into it and finds the time and place of their next hit. In the lab at 5:00 pm
Climax: when they break into the lab and find Joseph, he had given them many red hearings and was holding the remote to explosives inside the dam that kept the city safe from the waters. He presses the button and they all scramble frantically as the countdown starts. Bailey snatches it and drowns it in a sink last second. They capture Tina but Joseph flees the scene.
Falling action: they thought all was well until Joseph sneaks into Edward’s house and sets it aflame. He is found at the scene of the crime and is arrested for good.
Denouement: Edward finds a new home, but in another city because he planned to go back to college to become a police officer. They bid a sad a due and the story ends happily
A random story (I made my own prompt) prompt: Create a story about a magical cat
Beatrice balanced on the fragile log, the water thrashed under her. “You sure I can do this?” She yelled back to her friend. Beatrice was stricken with fear, even when she did the thumbs up to let her know it was fine. “If you insist,” she glared. Why had she made this terrible bet with her bully, Diana, to cross the river on the shaky rotting log?
She inhaled, gaining confidence and forced herself to go on. “Only a few more yards to go,” she whispered to herself and scrunched her face in unease when she took another step. A loud crack sounded, “No no no no.” She said, trying to wish herself away to another world to escape this reality. She looked down to find there was indeed a crack. A crack that was getting bigger and bigger than…BAM!!!
Beatrice hit the cold water with a gasp and was pulled under. The debris from the log swirled around her as she found a broken piece, afloat, and climbed on to it for dear life. The roaring river swept her away as she started contemplating her life decisions. She had lived a very ordinary life. She relaxed, then realized. Wait, was that Gertrude chasing for her waving a stick around like a maniac. Great, she thought. If it wasn’t the water that killed her it would be her getting beat up by a stick monster. But wait? Was she trying to reach over to her with the stick?
Before any second thought, Beatrice grabbed on and felt Gertrude pull her onto dry land. She coughed and hacked as she grasped the wet mud beneath her. “T..t..Thanks,” she sputtered out.
“I knew you shouldn’t have made that bet with Diana, just knew it.” Gertrude said, she always had to let Beatrice know when she was wrong. Beatrice covered her head in embarrassment and curled up into a ball.
“Push me back in that lake pleaseeeeee,” she said, drained of her energy.
“Yea no, you need your rest.” Gertrude replied, grabbing ahold of her arms and lifting Beatrice back to her feet.
“Fineeeeeee,” she groaned and they walked back together to her house.
——————————————————————
“What happened to you?” Her mom asked, truly concerned on the fact that she was soaking wet and she looked like she was dead inside.
“The river happened,” she said, lolling her head back in sheer exhaustion.
“Ok,” she said, eyeing her. Go get cleaned up and ready for dinner. She turned back to the chicken which by the time she turned around. Had burn marks on the side she hadn’t flipped yet.
Beatrice marched up the stairs and stepped into the shower, she got out quickly and changed clothes. She decided to skip dinner and crash in the bed. She was out in a moments notice.
Beatrice opened her weary eyes and still felt tired from the day before. The Saturday morning light gleamed through her window. She tried to stretch but felt something weighing her down. “What the-“ she said as she hauled herself up. A cat had found its way into her lap. It looked content, purring as she pat it. Beatrice looked around to see how it could have gotten in. Her window was closed and there was no possible way the cat could have opened it, could it? She checked the cat’s paws, it wasn’t polydactyl. “Stupid me thinking that the cat could have opened the window.” She said to herself.
“I don’t think it’s that stupid,” a voice said.
“Who’s there!” She said, whipping her head around to see if there was anybody.
“Me,” the voice said again, “Im the cat.”
“Very funny dad, now go return this cat back to the store where you found it, I don’t need one.” She pouted, not amused with what may have been father’s kind of joke.
“But it’s not your dad,” the voice said again. This time the cat got up and sat staring at her. His mouth moved as he said, “I’m a magic cat thank you very much, and that looks like a tasty meal.” He licked his lips.
“DONT YOU DARE EAT ME I BARELY HAVE ANY MEAT ON ME.” She screamed, throwing a book at him and scooting back as much as possible before she hit the wall.
“NO NO NO I WAS TALKING ABOUT THAT CHICKEN YOU LEFT ON YOUR DESK,” the cat snarled in frustration, his ears pinned back. He trotted over to the chicken wing and started munching on it.
She sighed, “So you’re a talking cat…”
“Ahem,” he said nodding while still eating the chicken wing.
“Then why have you come here, to my bedroom? Don’t you have a place at Hogwarts or something? The cat rolled his eyes.
“I’ve been sent here to help you of course,” he said, he left the rest of the chicken wing and padded back to her bed.
“Sent here? From your magical planet or something? And help me? I don’t need any help thank you very much.” She pouted, “Now shoo please, before I call the pound.” She opened the window and gestured for him to go.
“Yea nope, I’m staying here till I’ve completed my task.” He sat there in defiance. That stupid stubborn cat, couldn’t he see that she was doing just fine on her own?
“I don’t know about you but I’m going downstairs, either leave or be trapped in here, cat” she opened the door.
“Ok, and by the way the names Stanford.” He called out. She shut the door on him and sprinted down the stairs. She found the dryer and threw on some clothes in the bathroom. She wrote a note telling her still-asleep mom that she was heading over to Gertrude’s house. She grabbed her phone off of the counter and called Gertrude. The phone started ringing.
“Come on, come on.” She said, walking and praying that she would pick up.
“Hello?” Gertrude answered, her voice distorted.
She sighed in relief, “Hey Gertrude,” she replied. Sweat slicked her face as the sun boar down on her. “Is it ok if I come over? I need to tell you something really important,”
“Can’t you just tell me on the call?” Gertrude said, confused.
“No, I need to tell you in person.”
“Come on spill it, I don’t want you to come over just to tell me this.” Gertrude said, her tone sounded sort of frustrated.
“Too bad, I’m already walking over,” she replied in aggravation, then hung up the call. What a friend she had. Beatrice turned the corner and saw Gertrude’s house up ahead. She sprinted over to the door and rang the bell. She heard a loud crash, and then footsteps. The door was opened by Gertrude’s mom, her hair messy and her face red. “Hey,” she sighed, she could hear fighting in the background. “That’s my two twins, they’re a bit hectic, come on in.” She wiped off her glasses then put them back on as she walked past. She heard yelling from Gertrude’s room upstairs and went to go check it out. The door was left wide open to reveal Gertrude fighting with one of her siblings, who was holding her hairbrush.
“GIVE IT BACK,” she screeched then tried tugging it from her sibling. The girl shook her head and clutched it even tighter.
“MY DOLLIES NEED IT,” the girl screamed, her face red in anger. Gertrude glanced in her direction and her face morphed into embarrassment. She let go of the hairbrush and her sibling ran off with it.
“I am so sorry you had to see that,” she said, staring down at her feet and tucking her messy hair behind her ears.
“You’re fine,” she smiled, then realised what she had come here for. “You’re gonna have to close the door for this otherwise one of your siblings will hear and end up sending me to a mental institution.” Gertrude nodded and shut the door. Beatrice climbed on top of the bed and breathed in for confidence. “So something just happened that I can’t believe at all, and I know you will call me crazy for this.”
“Go on,” she replied.
“I have a talking cat, living in my room.” She said as fast as she could, hoping Gertrude would believe it.
“Ohhhhh I know, that must be a code word for puberty right?” Gertrude suggested then tapped her finger to her cheek. “We all get it, no need to be embarrassed.” She shrugged. Beatrice shook her head. “Oh oh I know, it must mean you kidnapped a lost child and you’re afraid to tell your parents that you want to adopt him? You’re a monster Beatrice, go return that lost child where you found it.” Beatrice glared at her, “Thank goodness that’s not it, wait… you don’t have a mini Rem-my controlling you through your hair right?” Beatrice exhaled in frustration.
“I HAVE A TALKING, MAGICAL CAT IN MY ROOM RIGHT NOW REFUSING TO LEAVE.” She yelled, Gertrude gasped.
“That’s why you wanted me to shut the door, I’ve gotta call a therapist to get you some help ASAP.” She picked up her phone.
“NO!!!” Beatrice screamed and snatched the phone from Gertrude
“NO! YOUR BREAKING THE FIFTH CONSTITUTION, YOUR STEALING MY PRIVATE PROPERTY, or wait was it the fourth? WHO CARES GIVE ME THAT BACK RIGHT NOW.” Gertrude lunged and Beatrice held it up in the air.
“You are no help for a friend whatsoever!” She growled in frustration, having to stand on top of her tippy toes to keep Gertrude from reaching it.
“I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU PYSCHO!” She screamed as she dove into Beatrice, sending them both crashing into the wall.
“I really am going to have to find help after this,” Beatrice said, dizzy, the corners of her vision darkened.
“NO DON’T YOU DARE DIE ON ME!” Gertrude hollered, then attempted to shake her awake.
“I’m fine really,” Beatrice said, why was the ceiling spinning? She shook her head and her vision cleared. “Now if you hadn’t had made us both crash into the wall I would be great.” She shoved Gertrude off her and stood up. “Now I’m going home since you can’t understand what your best friend’s trying to tell you.” She stomped over to the door.
“WAIT,” Gertrude shouted, before the door closed.
“What!” She glared.
“Oh, never mind” Gertrude said, tucking a hair behind her ear. “Bye,” she sighed. Beatrice shut the door and marched down the stairs and out the door. Her stupid friend would make up for it soon, she just needed…time.
A random story I felt like writing, I got the prompt from a free prompts project but I forgot who made it. Here it is!
Freda sobbed in her room then quickly wiped off her tears when a stranger came in. He was wearing a black vest and mask that concealed his identity.
“It’s time to go,” he said sternly, showing no empathy to the fact that she had been crying just a second before. She knew what he was doing, she had been sentenced to death by black hole in the space camp. She had been accused for stealing needed supplies. But she never did, she was just sighted at the scene when she was just going to the nearest restroom near the lab. She got up from her seat and dreier the rest of her wet face.
She swallowed back fear and lifted her chin up in confidence. She would not be known as the girl who had cried right before her death. She was 14 years old, still in school. And doing a terrible job at it. They were living on the colonised moon. A giant bubble had been formed around it to keep the oxygen in. She walked with the strange man across the field over to the black hole room. The field had been covered in dandelions. Looking to happy for this sad day. The blinding light from the sun overhead always shined on them, making the heat almost unbearable. The lighting dimmed as she walked inside the building.
“You are going to have to wear this,” the man declared, holding up a black blindfold. Freda snatched it and slipped it over her eyes. Better to not see her death coming than to wait in dread for it.
She was lead to a freezing room. As if all the life had been sucked out of it. The man tied her to a chair and left the room. Locking the door behind him.
“Criminal ready,” someone said. The room grew even colder and Freda could tell the lights dimmed even more. “Black hole initiation in 3, 2, 1.” Someone called out, then Freda felt an intense pull. The chair dragging as she felt herself leave the ground. She seemed suspended in the air for a moment then with intense speed.
She rushed forward and felt herself getting sucked into it. An intense pain followed, nausea overcame her as she felt herself being stretched out and twisted. Then it stopped. She was still in the chair and wondered if she was in heaven.
“Sir, it seems we’ve found another one.” A voice said.
This is for a word war! (March 23 / 2024) and it’s with @sweetcakefamily total of 219 words
“These words still smell like smoke and I hate it.” Manny glared at pages of a journal he had been writing in. Most of the pages burnt to a crisp, the one he had left off on had only a slight burn mark. He tried shaking the book, but to no avail, it did not work. Then he had tried placing it in front of a fan. Still did not work. His latest attempt was to spray it with Fe breeze. All it did was make it stink even more.
“UHHHHH,” he groaned. Why did his nasty cousins throw his journal into the fire? It happened on a the Fourth of July, the family was sitting around the campfire. Telling stories, laughing at jokes, and roasting marshmallows. His cousins found him writing in the journal earlier that day and thought it would be funny if they pretended to throw it in the fire. They waited til Manny had left to go to the restroom and they snatched it. Waiting for him to come back, soon Manny came back and then spotted the journal, clutched in one of his cousins hands.
“DROP IT,” He yelled out, scared of all his hard work written in that journal being erased. Manny creeped forward trying to ease his cousin into giving it back.
The rest:
His cousin shook his head. Then he lunged for shouting, “GIVE IT BACK BUSTER OR ILL POUND YOU TO A PULP!” He threatened, blinded by rage. His cousin jumped and let go of the journal. It fell into the fire, bursting into flames. Manny quickly grabbed a pair of tongs and snatched it out of the fire. He waved it frantically and looked around, there? A pitcher of water was sitting there. He quickly grabbed it and dumped it on the journal.
He stared at the now sopping wet journal. Would it ever be the same? Manny looked at the now dried journal and flipped through the pages. The writing was smeared and the pages were as stiff as ever. Then he head his mom.
“Manny, want to go shopping?” She called out from the kitchen. He perked up and immediately sprinted over. “Yea, I would love to.” He was practically bouncing when he got in the car. They pulled up to the store and he hopped out. They walked over and when they went inside a grand display showed. School supplies, it said. It had an assortment of pencils, binders, glue sticks, and everything else you would need for school. Then he immediately spotted something, there, the perfect journal. It had a bright red cover, he ran over and flipped through the pages. They were crisp and clean and smelled of his old journal, at least before it had gotten burned. He hugged the new journal and begged his mom.
“Please, please could I have it?” He pleaded, “My old one is ruined and I need a new one.” His mom sighed.
“Fine,” she replied. The time passed quickly and Manny daydreamed about the stories he would write in the journal. They quickly checked out the groceries and drove back home. He scrambled over to his room and cleaned off his desk. He quickly sharpened a pencil and flipped to the first page in the journal. “Time to write…”
The quest for the avocado by -1circle-
The ferns swished around the capybara, he padded around the dry ground for a while until
He spotted a tree, an avocado tree, hanging at the tip of the tree, was a delicious, juicy avocado. The capybara squealed in delight and tried jumping to reach the avocado. He missed so he tried again, and failed. So the capybara decided to try and climb the tree, he scrambled up the tree but slid down and landed back on the ground with a thump.
He growled, this tree was being very rude for not letting him have his avocado. Then suddenly he heard a shrill buzz behind him. He turned around to see a human, wearing a bright yellow thing on his head, holding a machine. The machine whirred and vibrated as the humans hands vibrated. The human creeped toward the avocado tree and jammed the machine through it.
The capybara backed away and heard a snap. Then the tree crashed to the ground and the machine stopped. The human put it down and made a loud noise, most likely calling for its pack. A large machine rolled up to the tree and the human grabbed the tree and hauled it into the giant basket. Which looked like it was supposed to hold it. The capybara barked, mad at his stolen avocado and climbed into the basket.
The tree was very interesting up close, but the capybara ignored it, searching for his precious avocado. He found nothing during his search and the thing had started moving. The wind breezed past his ears as he spotted his precious avocado behind him, left in the ferns. He gave a whine and looked for a way to get out. The basket was moving too fast for him to jump out without injuring himself.
He called for help, but he couldn’t even hear himself, so he lied down in the basket and mourned. He was left all alone without his precious avocado. He closed his eyes, resting his head on his paws, and quickly fell asleep.
The capybara woke up to the cold, where was this place? He sniffed the air, it had a foul, pungent smell. The basket was no longer moving so he hopped out and searched the area. It was an enclosed place, the floor a weirdly smooth texture, he kept on slipping on it as he scrambled to make sense of the area. A large noise came about and he noticed one of the walls of the cage lifting up and retreating from the weird ground. Another human stepped in, a different one this time, and clicked something in his hand. The basket beeped and the human climbed inside it.
The capybara dashed out of the opening in the wall and ended up outside. He was surrounded by a completely different environment, baskets dashed from a long strip of cleared grass to the other side and kept on going. The capybaras ears ringed every time one zinged by. More cages laid in front of him, each one looking the same as the other.
He gave a chirp and then felt something grab him. He squealed and squirmed as he turned around to see a human had picked him up. He tried scratching the human but his paws could not reach. He felt the human brushing him in a way that was strangely comforting. He relaxed and then something covered his eyes. He felt him self moving and was put inside another weird box. His eyes were uncovered and he was inside the basket once again.
He felt a rumble and it took off, it looked different from last time. There was no tree in the back, he whined, missing the avocado once again. Soon, the basket stopped, landing in front of another cage. He felt his own cage being picked up and he was taken inside. The inside was blindingly bright and he squinted. Many different animals were there that he had never seen before.
One of them yapped at him, he tried to copy the sound, sounding more like he had swallowed a bunch of swamp water. The human stared at him for a moment, then she turned back to the other human standing behind a weird piece of broken wall. The two human chattered back and forth with sounds he didn’t understand at all.
He suddenly started moving again, this time they had switched cages, this one had a large piece of wall jutting out of the side. Assortments of human things lined another piece of wall, they all scared him. His cage was plopped down on one of the surfaces and the cages door opened. He scrambled out and immediately slipped on the slick ground.
Another human stood there, wearing what may have been snow, how did the human get it to stick to herself like that? The other human immediately started poking and prodding him. He flinched at every touch and wished the human would stop. He felt some of his fur being smothered in a wet substance and then a sharp pain. He chirped in pain, but as soon as I it started it ended. He turned around to see that the human was holding a weird object filled with a red substance. He chirped again and the human walked away, opening a piece of wall and walked out. What was this sorcery?
He turned to the other human hoping for an answer. She smiled, and cooed random nonsense and pet him. He smiled in delight, relishing the attention.
After a moment, the human had come back. This time holding a long and thin object. It chattered to the other human and after they stopped communicating he was shoved back into the cage again and was taken upon a new place. Another basket! This one had a much larger inside, he was very happy to see it but mad that he could not actually run around. He was put down in the corner and the wall shut, leaving him in darkness.
Time seemed to stand still as it rumbled again, probably to take off to its next destination. Hours seemed to pass until it stopped once again. The wall opened up to reveal a different human from before. This one also picked up his cage, but this time with a steadiness that he appreciated. He saw outside the cage another human establishment. This one was not enclosed but there were some other enclosed cages up ahead.
He was taken into one of them and set down. His wall, once again, was removed and he was free! Or so he thought. A border stumped him where he thought he would be able to run. He shrank, how was he supposed to get back to his lovely avocado now? He sadly laid down on a soft surface and quickly dozed off. Weary from the day.
The capybara woke up to another chirp. His kind! He immediately hopped up to see another fellow capybara hovering over him. They both chirped in delight. But soon enough their fun ended as another human opened the secret wall. He came with another cage and shoved the other capybara in it, he squealed at the human, scared for his friend. He bit the human’s standing thing and he immediately fell over in pain, clutching his standing thing.
The other capybara scrambled over to the corner and barked at the human. His face lit up in fear as he ran out of the wall area, limping. The capybara turned to the other capybara and she showed gratitude. But a familiar scent wafted his nose and he saw the human again. This time carrying a strange object. He barked but before he could bite the human again, he shoved the strange object over his snout, disabling his ability to bite.
He squealed in fear, but was picked up once again and he taken to a basket. But this time free to roam around he quickly tried to run out again but the door shut and he heard a snap as his leg got caught in the magic wall. He panicked, pain pulsing through his leg, the human quickly ran after the capybara. Them both limping, but the capybara was faster, he quickly dashed inside another cage with the magic door still open and hid. The human shrugged from outside and drove off in the basket. He chirped in relief but did not have time to relish it, his leg still hurting like crazy he curled up into a ball and went to sleep quickly.
The capybara was roused from his sleep by many noises, the loud humans calling out very loudly, loud crashes sounded then a bang. He smelled smoke as a group of humans broke into the building. Many of them were holding cages of different animals. The capybara was cornered, he couldn’t flee. He attempted to bark but the object still covered his snout.
One of the humans grabbed him and immediately coaxed him. He relaxed then realized that this human might be evil and attempted to shove his claws into the humans upper standing thing. He flinched in pain and gave up trying to fight. His leg was wounded so he couldn’t do anything.
He felt another sharp pain in his other leg and felt sleep overcome him, he became exhausted and tried to keep his eyes open. Whatever the human did to him was making him fall asleep. He fought the tiredness but eventually succumbed to it and rested his head on the human.
He woke up, finding himself in another white room with a broken piece of wall on the side jutting out. He was sprawled out on it. His leg had been bound up by some weird thing that had the similar texture of leaves. He tried chewing it free of his leg and realized the snout cover was off. He chirped in delight and then resumed trying to pry it off. He failed, the leaf wrap was gripping on to his leg like a lizard to a branch.
He saddened once again, and he thought he was free again. Another human came in and picked him up. He was moved to another room with a dirt floor. He was set down and a round saucer of dry grass lay in front of him. He happily munched on it and lay there for a while, days seemed to pass with this same routine, eat, sleep, eat, sleep. Sometimes he would trot around, running a few laps so his leg wouldn’t grow stiff.
It still hurt until the day it didn’t hurt at all. Another human came in, they held a cage and plopped a piece of fruit inside. He chirped in delight and scrambled inside. The wall closed behind him and he realized what happened. Again? He asked himself, it was brought into another basket and this time it was filled with a sweet scent of…AVOCADO! He panicked trying to figure out where it was coming from. Then he noticed a tiny object producing the smell. He wilted with disappointment for his dear avocado which he so wished to eat. The basket rumbled once again and soon it stopped.
A opening was swung open and the wall of his cage was removed. He quickly sprinted out of the basket and cooed happily to see his home. Even better, he was right next to an avocado tree. Filled with lots of juicy fruits. He turned around to see that the basket was moving again, this time with him not in it. He watched sadly as it rolled away, ready to take on its next adventure. He turned back to the tree and thwacked it with his paw. He heard a thump on the ground beside him and turned his head to see… FINALLY! A juicy avocado lay in front of him. He ran over in delight and started munching on it. All of this work for one avocado, definitely worth it.
Authors note:
If you’ve finished reading this story and wondered if you were truly a capybara for a while, don’t worry! I can explain the events that happened from a humans point of view. So the capybara explanation of the baskets were actually cars. And the pieces of wall jutting out of the floor and walls were counters. The magical wall openings were… you guessed it! Doors. And the place he was at was the vet. When he’s taken to the place where he meets another capybara, he was actually taken to an illegal place where they would sell exotic pets, the snout cover was a muzzle which you probably guessed. And when he was captured once again by humans, they were animal control officers that had heard about the place and the group was rescuing the animals. The place after that was a second vet, where his leg was mended and he was released back into the wild once his leg had fully healed. And that’s it! I’m planning on adding a section where the different humans in the story tell it from their point of views. This story was an awful lot of fun and I finally know what it’s like to write a story about a capybara and his precious avocado!
Lilac stared at the crystal clear water. Bethanie sat beside her. “Do you wonder what would happen if those tales were true? Lil about these woods being haunted?” She asked, dipping her hand in the water to pick up a floating flower. Bethanie laughed,
“No of course not, otherwise we would be seeing ghosts right now.” The Color drained from her face.
“What’s wrong?” Lilac was concerned for her friend. She looked like she had seen a ghost. She shook off the thought, bad reference.
“T..t..there!” She pointed to the woods ahead of them. A blue siloighte stood there. Holding a sheet.
Bethanie screamed in fear and Lilac quickly slapped her hand over her mouth.
“Shut it, he can hear you.” She whispered in fear. The ghost tilted his ear over in their direction as if he was listening. Then lilac felt a tap behind her shoulder. “AHHHHHH!” She screamed and whipped her head around to see the same ghost. This time inches away from her.
“Hello their fellow ghost.”
