Introduction / About me

Hey there! I'm kabet, an immortal god a perfectly sane, British human being. If it wasn't obvious already, my username is @SnailArcade. I'm nonbinary an go by he/they/any pronouns, meaning that I go by any ponouns (including neos) but prefer he/him and they/them. I love art, especially costume-making, though I also do crochet, traditional+digital art, clay sculpting, sewing, and ractically whatever else I can get my hands on. I also love horror art, fungi and reptiles. I would like to own a gecko, snake, or other reptile in the future when I have more space, but right now that isn't possible and I don't want to give the animal a bad life.
I don't think I could survive without tea- being born and raised in England, what else could you have expected? As well as this, I love watching hermitcraft, the life series and S.O.S- or any other content by the participants of those series.
Regarding the warriors series, I have read the first 10-15 books maybe, however lost inerest due to the famous inconsistencies, as well as it generally being.. not the best series. I am still active within the community, however, and don't have anything against those who do enjoy the books. I think that the fandom can be a great place to hang out and make new friends!

Activity

I am consistently active on scratch every day, and have contacts offsite incase I get banned etc, that I can trust to let people know if need be.
Other than extreme cases like this, I rarely, if ever, go offline for multiple days in a row. I try my best to at least check my notifications in the morning and evening if I don't have much time, however most days I also come on multiple times a day to simply chat, work on projects, or, if needed, reply to roleplays. The only time I'm consistently unable to be online is at school or in bed, which I hope is understandable from an outside perspective. If I had to rate it out of ten, I would give myself a solid 9.

Experience + characters

Wow, does this go a way back. I'll try not to go into too much detail here as for it not to get too long-winded.
As far as I can remember, the first roleplay I've ever been in was a JMA roleplay based on wings of fire. Fun fact, this is where I met my best online friend, Grey. I was just about getting started with my roleplay experience, and had a few dragon characters who ran around causing chaos. I won't pretend like I was any good at roleplay back then- I wrote one-sentence-long replies with incorrect grammar and all that jazz.
After that, I saw a bunch of people I admired joining TFCRP through litters. I made a sign-up character called Eideramity, a calico cat with, as far as I can remember, one of those classic beginner ‘cold on the outside, friendly on the inside’-type personalities. They survived for just over 40 moons before I killed them off due to having no arc, a very flat personality, and, frankly, I had realised that I had to gain some more experience and evolve my skills before being able to fit into such a professional roleplay.
I then joined a bunch of smaller roleplays between one and two years after that, having many characters and even becoming admin of one- SGWCRP. It recently died out, but I have fond memories of it. My character, nettlefrost, lived to over a hundred moons and never officially died, but take into account that I owned them since apprenticeship. Other rolepays in this time period included GWCRP and another one set by the sea which I can't quite remember the name of. I also joined APW for a while, and played a very interesting character who got their tongue cut clean off as punishment for doing something or other.
In late 2022 and early 2023, I began applying to TFCRP litters again. It took a while and a lot of effort, but I eventually won Kerfufflekit- who I still own as Kerfufflefork today. As of 24 March 2024, he is 59 moons old. I understand this is a little young, only having had him for a little over a year, but due to multiple reasons I just think it's his time.
In general, my characters average from 70-110 moons of age at death, though I do hope to keep Barn-owl to the age limit if I can manage. I can imagine how they might act when they are older, which seems to be a big hurdle on my part- so I don't think this' too much of a stretch on possibility.

Slots

Barn will be using my first character slot, but also not quite- let me explain. I don't want to use my second character slot, since i think I would really struggle with burnout, following all the rules, and with putting a proper amount of effort into each of the characters. If I do end up winning Arie, I will be killing off kerfufflefork, but there may be a small overlap where I own both at the same time. This is just while I do end up killing them off, to finish up any death roleplays etc.

Identity

As a kit, Barn will be a cisgender, straight male. They won't quite understand the concepts of gender identity and attraction yet, and so won't pay much mind to it.
Later on, as a mature apprentice, they will identify as nonbinary, using they/he/xe pronouns. Additionally, sometime in their life they will realise that they are androsexual, meaning that they will be attracted to male and masculine-presenting figures.

Why do I want them?

Oh my god this design. It is so utterly gorgeous I cannot even fathom it?? And the name fits so well, and sounds amazing, and I love owls and asderftghjkl;. And the proposed plotline/background I can't even!!
So basically, I adore everything about Barn-owlkit. I'm not usually the biggest fan of cream-based designs but foir some reason this one struck me so incredibly hard and I instantly fell in love. I'm very fond of the splotches and variations in colour, making it interesting without being too complicated, and I can imagine drawing them over and over and over again and never getting bored. Every time I look at their design, I get bursts of motivation instantly. As well as this, Ithink their half-blindness would be really interesting to roleplay out.
I also love owls and birds in general, and for some reason barn owls are very nostalgic to me. I love the way their name sounds, I've always been a fan of hyphenated WC names and this one is so gorgeous.
I can so quickly imagine their personality, how their life might pan out, how anything might happen to them. Everything about them is amazing, in my eyes, and I would be honoured to roleplay through their eyes.
As well as all that, I adore the lore of them being found in a pond with a bunch of ducklings. It's super unique and I've never seen anything similar, so I'd love the possibilities it could bring!

Why should I win?

This is a hard one to write while being truthful but not sounding too full of myself, But overall I think that the main reason I should win is because of my love and dedication towards them. I adore Barn-owl and have spent so much time on them, and belive I would give them a good life. They have charmed me to the absolute core, so it's a given that I would put lots of effort into Bee's, well, everything. I want to draw hundreds of pieces of art for them, give them developed relationships and arcs, and all in all give them the best life I could imagine.
They inspire me a lot- Every time I come back to this I get motivation and want to draw them, to draw close-ups of their fur and eyes, study the way they move so that I can draw them perfectly.
I am incredibly attatched to Barn-owlkit, and feel a strong connection to them.
I think I would roleplay them well, and not get easily bored with their personality. I want to give them a long and fulfilling life that brings joy to both myself and anyone who I may roleplay with. I want to roleplay with as many people as possible and develop as many relationships as possible, so that hopefully I can both gain roleplay experience myself and help others gain experience. I won't be against roleplaying with beginners or with those who generally write shorter replies, but I'll also enjoy the odd longer roleplay every once in a while. I want teveryone to feel included and to be happy in tfcrp, so I'll try not to make others feel excluded when choosing who to roleplay with.

Detailed

Barn-owlkit is a long-furred, fluffy cat with a fittingly large heart. They are very family-oriented, and show a deep love for their friends and relatives. They are very appreciative- Stormshudder iis likely the only reason they're alive, so want to make sure xe feel known. When meeting new clanmates, they are very friendly and kind, doing their best to make a good impression before they inevitably do something wrong to mess things up. They greet others with a smile and fake-yawn, wanting to make others happy before anything else.
They try their best to empathise with others but don't always succeed- either way, it's the thought that counts, right? Bee sometimes gets confused and can't tell what others might be thinking in that moment, struggling to imagine that others might percieve things differently to one another.

When they are absorbed in something, they are very passionate and invested in that thing. They hyperfixate easily and often spend entire days at a time simply observing bugs or looking for birds. They try their best to observe every little detail in something and always look around themselves for the things they find interesting, partly to make up for their half-blindness. They will spend hours watching one little insect's crawl, the way it moves, the way its antennae bounce with every step. As well as this, they are very optimistic. Bee always looks to the bright side of things if they can, and they will try to put on a smile even if it isn't quite genuine. They try to keep others happy as much as they can, like I said, so they will try to tell them everything will be alright- even in the times where it won't be.

They are also very adventurous and explorative. They have a deep longing to see things outside of camp, and so throughout their life they will regularly try to sneak out of camp. They have an independent streak, often leaving on ‘adventures’ on their own to satisfy their thirst for exploration. Often taking risks, Barn-owlkit embraces new challenges with excitement, eager to uncover the unknown and broaden their horizons. This can get them in trouble with predators and other dangerous things, paired with their blind eye. When faced with trouble, they sometimes act recklessly or become stubborn. Despite their best intentions, they end up disregarding rules or authority figures in favour of their own desires, occasionally finding themselves distracted by whatever else they may prefer to do. And, a lot of the time, they will straight up ignore the rules in favour of chaos and fun, believing that everyone is a little too harsh and strict.

Summary

Barny is a loving and kind cat with an adventurous streak, who loves to learn about bugs, birds, and animals in general. Though they are easily distracted and not always on-task, they always have the best of intentions.

Research

blind in one eye

Link 1 Barn-owlkit will be blind in one eye from birth. They will have little to no depth perception and
Link 2 often struggle more than others with daily tasks, however they will still be able to function as
Link 3 a normal cat in the sense that they will be independent and not need external help.
Link 4 They will not be as good at hunting or fighting, though it will still be possible if they try hard
enough. Despite these challenges, Barn-owlkit will be determined to live as normally as they
can. They compensate for their visual impairment by relying heavily on their other senses, such as hearing and smell, to get around life. However, despite their best efforts, they may still face obstacles in fully integrating into clan life. Predators pose more of a threat to them, and social interactions with other cats may be a little more difficult due to potential misunderstandings or misjudgments stemming from their condition. Nonetheless, Barn-owlkit's resilience shines through as they navigate their world.

Born without claws

Link 1 Cats being born without claws is extremely rare, but definitely possible. It is called anonychia
Link 2 and often only means that one or a few claws are missing, however it can happen that all of
them are missing as well. Missing claws are not in themselves a sign of illness, however the
absence can cause discomfort in the cat's day-to-day life. Ba will struggle to hunt and kill prey, as well as fight, especially when combined with their one blind eye. They might not be sent out on patrols as often, and they will likely get more hurt if they ever get attacked by a predator, since their close-to-only defence will be their teeth. They would have to learn how to survive and kill prey with different methods, and how to evade attacks instead of countering them.

Other tidbits

Plot ideas

- Just settling into clan life. I think they would struggle to fit into clan life quite a lot for the first few moons, and I would like to explore how he feels. I think he would be very overwhelmed at first, but soon start trying to make friends and getting more and more curious about the world around them. After being a loner, they would also struggle to remember the warrior code and the general rules, so they would accidentally break them a lot and be very apologetic when getting confronted.
- Getting attacked by some predator- since they are near-useless at defending themselves, something big plot-wise could probably happen there. I would find it interesting to roleplay the emotional turmoil after the event takes place. I imagine that they would at first just be very scared and paranoid of everything, but then eventually come to terms with themself and realise how grateful they are that they didn't get attacked while still living clanless- then, they would likely have been killed.
- Getting lost in the woods. Again, they wouldn't be able to defend themselves very easily. Maybe this could link into the first plot idea, where thay get lost and then attacked because of it? I love writing scenes where a character is lost for one reason or another, and I think it's quite likely to happen when you consider their personality.

Arcs

- As they mature and get older, they will get less playful and energetic, and will think about starting a family of their own. They might start a little club where they teach kits and apprentices about bugs or birds.

Possible accessories

- A leaf-cloak?? (see trivia)
- Horns made of sticks/branches maybe
- Beetles decorating their face/back/tail- like, absolutely everywhere. They are a faberge egg.

Trivia

- I would be using my ‘bioluminescence’ trait on them, which I won from a raffle. This means that parts of them would glow at night and in the dark, and in the daytime they will have a gentle shimmer to their pelt. Proof is here. I would likely make their dapples and freckles glow, but I'm not wholly sure yet and want to play around with the design first.
- Nicknames include Ba, Barn, Barny, Arrie, Little duck/duckling, Puddles, Owly/Owlie, and Owl.
- I might try get perms for them to wear a little cloak-sorta thing made from leaves, to hide their bioluminescence when they need to.
- They are absolutely obsessed with animals, especially bugs and birds.
- Their hogwarts house would be hufflepuff.
- Their ‘soldier, poet, king’ thingy would be poet.
- Their scent is a light petrichor, mixed in with pine needles and sap.
- If they were a human, they would be an entomologist and have pet chinchillas.
- They are an ambivert.
- They often sing quietly to themself about whatever they're doing, but their voice is terrible.
- If they were a cereal, they would be cornflakes.
- If they had the change to become any animal, at first they would choose to be a duck- but then think about being hunted for food and choose to be an owl instead.
- They often talk to themselves.
- Their favourite flower is a dandelion.
- Their element would be air.
- Bee isn't the best at solving problems.
- They aren't the best at fighting but they can evade attacks fairly well and their physical strength is good from practicing so much.
- They have fairly good agility.
- They get scared at loud noises and overwhelming events, becoming paranoid and anxious.
- They enjoy it if others like them, but don't think it's the most important thing in the world to be liked. Just ignore them, insult them, and move on with your life!

Love language

Owl would appreciate any form of love and strive to return it however they could, but there are a few ways they prefer for it to be shown. Primarily, they love getting gifts and physical affection. They appreciate any gift, however small, and they believe it's the thought that counts. Oftentimes, Barn will spend hours crafting little bits of jewellery from duck downy feathers and dead beetles, or making little bracelets from the prettiest flowers they could find. They know how much work goes into making something and so they love it with all their heart when they get a gift that obviously has had a lot of thought put into it.
They also enjoy physical affection, however less so recieving than giving it. Their fluffy, long fur is perfect to snuggle into and they like brushing tails as a sign of appreciation. This will be more obvious when they are young, but will remain with them throughout their life.

Fake quotes

Barn-owl: The last time I went to an urgent care clinic, I checked off ‘excessive crying’ on the symptom list, and then the nurse got really confused and said that was meant for babies.

Barn-owl: I am very small and I have no money, so you can imagine the kind of stress that I'm under.

Barn-owl: Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to fear how much they love me.

Barn-owl: Hello, my name is Failure, and you're watching my life crumble into pieces.
Barn-owl: *waves their finger and sings like they're in a Disney Channel intro*

Barn-owl: Get in, loser, we’re committing vehicular manslaughter!

Barn-owl: My knee just cracked so loudly that I half expect it to glow in the dark tonight. (it will)

Barn-owl: I just realized that every person is living a life as vivid and complex as my own.
Barn-owl:
Barn-owl: I feel so bad for them.

Barn-owl: You call it “really bad at darts”, I call it “freestyle acupuncture.”
Bartender: …I'm going to have to ask you to leave the bar.

Barn-owl: People always shoot down my ideas and I’m sick of it. Two sentences in and everyone’s always shouting “what the f—? that’s illegal!” and “you can’t do that!”. Like, c'mon, let me talk!

Barn-owl: I am Barn-owl, I speak for the trees. Chop them down and I snap your knees.

Barn-owl as a child: I can’t wait to grow up and have cool adventures!
Barn-owl now: I can’t wait to go to bed.

Barn-owl: When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your * lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Barn-owl lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the person who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Barn-owl: I'm a firm believer in “if you're going to fail, you might as well fail spectacularly.”
