Does Scratch need a NASA supercomputer to run?
Im tryna make some of my assets in this one asset dump I have that's about 8.4 MB full of detailed vector costumes, and every now and then when I work on it the editor screen just goes blank white which probably means it crashed. What's going on here
Computer specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G (6 core 12 thread, overclocked to 4.0 GHz)
16 GB, 2400 MHz RAM
GTX 1650
OS - Windows 10
Software - Scratch offline editor Scratch 3.0
no other apps were open while I was using Scratch editor

Its just one big project containing multiple costumes of vector models. My vector models of mostly military vehicles, I keep them in one big project file.

The limit for assets is 10MB, since 8.4 MB is very close, that's why it's crashing.

That’s per asset, and this is the offline editor they were using, which should not have the browsers inbuilt limits. The limit for assets is 10MB, since 8.4 MB is very close, that's why it's crashing.

8.4MB sounds like an unusually big vector file - is it a vector image you are trying to upload something that cannot be replicated in the current Scratch editor? If it uses things that the current Scratch 3.0 editor does not have (e.g. textures, specialized shapes, subpaths), then more likely than not, the editor is going to have a brainfart moment and crash.
may or may not have found this out the hard way when I used to do QC testing on the Scratch editor back then (ಠ‿ಠ)

It’s not per asset, you get 10mb of costumes and 10mb of soundThat’s per asset, and this is the offline editor they were using, which should not have the browsers inbuilt limits. The limit for assets is 10MB, since 8.4 MB is very close, that's why it's crashing.

8.4 MB is the entire file with about 100 or more costumes 8.4MB sounds like an unusually big vector file - is it a vector image you are trying to upload something that cannot be replicated in the current Scratch editor? Correct me if I'm wrong, but your browser doesn't use your entire computer's memory, but just a portion of it, so if you try to do things that involve more memory than allowed to the browser, it can crash

Yes it is per asset. You can have a project be infinitely large. You might be confused with he 5 megabyte project.json file. It’s not per asset, you get 10mb of costumes and 10mb of soundThat’s per asset, and this is the offline editor they were using, which should not have the browsers inbuilt limits. The limit for assets is 10MB, since 8.4 MB is very close, that's why it's crashing.

That is technically true(not sure how Chrome eats so much ram with this rule in place), but the OP is using the offline edit, which i believe Electron doesn’t have this limit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your browser doesn't use your entire computer's memory, but just a portion of it, so if you try to do things that involve more memory than allowed to the browser, it can crash

I feel like it's just the sb3 file, which should be alright, but if it's the sprite, then that project is more likely to cause a lot of lag (10 MB is usually when projects start to lag)For clarification: Is this a Scratch sb3 files with a singular sprite that has 100 costumes?8.4 MB is the entire file with about 100 or more costumes 8.4MB sounds like an unusually big vector file - is it a vector image you are trying to upload something that cannot be replicated in the current Scratch editor? Pretty much. There are over 100 costumes with high detail vector assets

Having 100 costumes into a single sprite is not a good idea. It would be best to split up the dump between multiple sprites instead of one sprite, otherwise the editor would feel rather rather stressed trying to load a sprite that's very large. For clarification: Is this a Scratch sb3 files with a singular sprite that has 100 costumes?8.4 MB is the entire file with about 100 or more costumes 8.4MB sounds like an unusually big vector file - is it a vector image you are trying to upload something that cannot be replicated in the current Scratch editor? If you absolutely have to have everything in one sprite, I would recommend to at least regularly export the sprite file and have multiple copies of it in case of a project crash.

It's probably not the best idea, but you can convert the costumes to bitmap when you're done. Or you can probably continue working on it in Turbowarp. I haven't tested it, but it will probably work? Ill try turbowarp, also I need my copy to be in vector so that I can edit the sprite in the future (for example, if I will use them for making battle scenes, or create variations of that item)
