Don't lie about being 100% open source
Agreed-I think it's quite likley that the person who made this knows nothing about the codebase and assumed that since Scratch loves advertising itself as open source, they copied that statistic onto the graphic.Note that this also assumes malicious intent — we shouldn't be so quick to assume that the Scratch Team is trying to mislead their users as opposed to occasionally making mistakes. But the whole discussion of that seems a bit off-topic from this thread anyway.I doubt the statistic was placed there for malicious intent.Unfortunately with the Scratch Teams past history with being deceptive to the community to make their work seem better than it is (eg lying that the “browse project” feature was new when it wasn't, I sadly doubt that this was an innocent mistake. I think it was more likely a marketing tactic for the Scratch Team to get more donations, as the same site, the Scratch Foundation, is where donations are held.
Though @determenter does bring up a fair point that the ST has been deceptive to the community before, like lying about new features so it seems like they changed something. (Though maybe that was a mistake and the devs told community managers that it was a new feature or no one noticed the old feature for the years it was implemented?) As another example, there was a feature on the donate page that showed fake donations on the page to compel people to donate, including using IP addresses to make fake donations from nearby areas. This is a deceptive practice to get people to donate. It was suggested to be removed on the forums, and was removed thanks to @Paddle2See passing it on to the devs. However, the Scratch Team later covered up their tracks by deleting the topic that suggested this deceptive feature to be removed. So while I'd like to assume good intent, the Scratch Team has unfortunately proven that that can't be done all the time with their actions.

Hey, we noticed this thread is getting more heated than normal. We also noticed this thread is from all the way back in 2022, so there could be some discussions going on here that might not reflect current technical or legal definitions. We'll close the topic for a short bit until we could get an answer from the devs regarding the stats, so that the discussion can move in a more healthy way afterwards.
Edit, the information about “open source” is still technically correct. It's also been concluded that the discussion here as of late was being purposely made to be much too narrow in scope for not just Scratch, but also other services that use the same or similar labels, with the intent to be snippy, so the topic will remain closed.
