That's what I was thinking, actually. I completely agree.
Yeah, I think that's the best idea.

I think that we should focus less on the time periods thing and more on the theme of the realms themselves, the desert can be like a steampunk industrial place and the ocean can futuristic for asthetic purposes to set it apart from the other realms, and the forest can be medieval.

We dont have to focus on the time period at all to do with the realm, but it could add some cool mechanics where if you change one thing in the forest (past) it effects the ocean (future)

OH YEAH! So the player has to complete one realm to unlock the other!

Game developing time! They can start in the forest, (past) and work their way to the desert (present-ish) and then go to the ocean (future). After they unlock all three, they can freely move throughout them. They can also go back to any of the unlocked ones if they are trying to get to the next one.
EXAMPLE:
The player is currently in the desert, and trying to unlock the ocean. They go back to the forest to get some sort of clue that will help unlock the ocean. After they unlock the ocean, they go back to some key place in the desert and figure out how to get to the fourth realm. Note: that doesn't have to be what happens, just an example. It also shouldn't take too long, since the game mainly focuses on the fourth realm. There should be some auto-saving, too, because it seems this game will take a while.

I've run out of signature ideas . . .

unfortunately, due to the limits of cloud variables, this isn't really possible, but we can still add a save system
(yes autosaving can be added, but for only like 20 - 30 players at most depending on how many variables would need to be saved)
And also, i think their actions in the forest should affect the desert, and actions in the desert and forest affect the ocean, that's not really a necessary addition, but it would be cool!

I recommend reading jvvg's essay about the scratch team before complaining, as it may change your opinion and provide insight on the topic.

With this feature, we could add endless replay value.

would we hard code this in, or should i use some lists algorithms to calculate what should happen based off of each action (apart from the story line) should do?

wdym we wont need a algorithm just to track story progress

I'm not a coder for this game, but a list seems logical.
when I receive [an action by the player v]
add [outcome] to [list of outcomes v]

when I receive [enter forest realm v]
if <[list of outcomes v] contains [a certain result] ?> then
broadcast [change something in the forest realm v]
add [forest realm change 1] to [list of outcomes v]
end

Well, as long as there’s a saving feature, I guess.

I did find something that might help with autosaving, but it isn't reliable yet.
