this is probably one of the fastest growing topics. topics in like suggestions or QaS are more based around constructive conversation whereas topics in tirap are more like “ooohh i like it so goodly and i will talk about it nonstop”
I've had this topic open for like 4 months and its already almost at 1600 posts and 80 pages. yall are really passionate

It's hard not to get stuck in an echo chamber online, even on non-algorithmic sites like Scratch.
Stepping into a physical music store (especially used music stores and indie shops) basically exposes you to another human's favorite music.
I would never have found out 'bout Tom Lehrer or Jacques Brel if not for my local record shop.
That is mostly true, but it's really really easy to just
Listen to something else
Like you don't have to let Spotify run
You can just go online and be like
“Leonard Bernstein”
And then realize
“Oh he worked with Sondheim
Oh he wrote a show that had Mandy Patinkin
Oh Mandy Patinkin has a bunch of albums, on one of those he has a duet with Kristin Chenoweth
She was in Wicked by Stephen Schwartz
But she was also in that one Cy Coleman operetta
What, Cy Coleman was also a jazz pianist?
Wow this is incredible”
If you allow yourself the freedom to fall down a rabbithole like that
You can find a lot of very different music on the internet
i usually find out abt artists by
1. “similar artists”page from an artist that i like
2. scratch
3. my cousin
I've found that the algorithmic suggestion playlists and such are really helpful with discovery too. I've discovered countless songs and artist from listening to the spotify AI DJ or through my Apple music station

Do you ever feel like you wanna learn a new language (or even know some words in a foreign language) because of foreign songs that you like?

What music are you listening to?

day 22. natty dread by Bob Marley and the wailers. 8/10, my favorite song is no woman no cry. I was such a Bob Marley fan as a small child I even convinced my parents to name our cat marley. I still really like Bob Marleys music a lot, although I don't listen to him as much anymore.
