We cannot do that, as Scratch is meant to run smoothly, even on slower devices, like a Chromebook.
Having things above 500x500 will cause Scratch to run slower, or may even crash the website itself.

ik that, i meant would it be 600*600, 1000*1000, ect.

The vector editor would make the image in .svg format, and the bitmap editor would make the image extremely pixilated or blurry.

That would be very nice for convenience, but should there be a compression system first, as to not lag out the site?

the reason you can't have a profile picture over 500x500 is because, as previously mentioned, it would lag out scratch quite alot. If this very forum page you're on right now to read this had at least 2 people with profile pictures over 500x500, scrolling would be really laggy.

It wouldn't need additional compression. So long as they keep the file size limit, they won't be using more server resources than they already have.

maybe they could be auto scaled down if they are above it
