It looks like it's trying to indicate a pew pew to their head.
It was meant to point it as in saying “Hey look that's me!”

Is that character giving a thumbs up, or is it pointing a finger gun to its head?

If it's a thumbs up, then the image should be okay, although I would recommend redrawing it slightly so that it looks less like a finger gun.

If it's a finger gun, then I would not recommend using that image.
