Also, it reports -1 in 3.0 from what I've seen if the mic is disconnected.

Hi, developer here (Not in Scratch, Javascript)

I know my way around the internals of scratch and its an intentional feature for it to return -1. It allows users to differentiate whether a users mic is quiet (0), or disconnected (-1)
