[SOLUTION] Dislike button

This is absolutely unnecessary, as you could put anything you want to that input box and the comments already do that.

I still feel like having a dislike button would be disheartening for some Scratchers, particuarly if it is then used on them. Furthermore, I feel many people using the form will be unconstructive, putting the Scratcher on full blast on how bad their project was, without any suggestions to improve the project, which may greatly upset the user in question, which the Scratch Team don't want. Overall, I think negative features on Scratch isn't really the approach the Scratch Team is looking for, and that Scratch Users instead putting comments saying what they liked about the project and how it could be improved would be a much better solution to giving feedback.
Wot m8? I never expected you to come back in a million years!

However, there is a drastic flaw in this suggestion that hasn't been addressed yet. This suggestion is suggesting that you can send a message to another user explaining what they didn't like and how it could be improved. However, a message like this would open the doors to private messaging. If inappropriate or disrespectful discussions were happening on the site, the Scratch Team may never know.
However, the OP states:

DifferentDance8 wrote:

To combat potential private messaging abilities, the reasoning will also be sent as a comment (applying the character limit). It will also prevent “spam” reasonings as well.
Although the way that it's worded makes me wonder if these would still be private messages
These won't be private messages, because sending a comment on a project isn't considered PMing.

Now, here comes the endless barrage of quotes that sum down to one thing:

Just comment. What’s the difference if it does nothing different? Would I say “dislike” on the comment or anything?

+ You can use comments / profil comments to give tips to a scratcher.

No support. An unnecessary alternate to commenting.

Already implemented, it's called a comment.

Seriously though, the only difference between your suggestion and the workaround is this may have a counter if it were implemented.
1) There won't be a counter
2) People won't think to comment their opinions on a project if their opinions are negative, they'd most likely think to press a specialized button.

If only the creator of a project and the disliker are able to see the comment, the yes, it's PM'ing. You are basically suggesting PM'ing with extra steps

Do you have a source for that?

No… Not quite. Comments published via the process of disliking will have a purple glow around them.

Okay.
1. What if reason is “blehhh ur project boring me no like”
2. Is there a counter?
2.1. If there is a counter, would still be demotivating
2.2. If there isn’t, why not just send a comment…?
3. And anyways, this would still be “disliking”, and “disliking” is demotivating by any means

Maybe you could clearly state to make dislike comments constructive?

No, there wouldn't be. +

That's really not necessary. This whole suggestion just really isn't necessary. Your suggestion is either already rejected anyways or just “glowly purple comments”

I think this suggestion could be improved if there was also a way to filter comments that used the dislike button to post. That way, it would be easier to find criticisms and ways to improve in a sea of comments

wait what

Now it literally sounds like you're describing comments. This will waste development time and resources on something that ultimately doesn't matter with no real benefit other than a color change.

No Support. You can just use comments. And if there isn't a dislike counter, what's the point of having it? And if there was a dislike counter, and you got a lot of dislikes, it would make you feel bad. Not to mention, trolls would mass dislike projects just to make people feel upset. Using comments is a way more constructive way to give criticism.

So then the only difference between this suggestion and the comment feature is a button encouraging users to tell the creator why they don't like their project.

Even if the instructions do say to be constructive, don't you think that a lot of users will still write things like “this is bad” or “I hate this project” because it's, you know, a dislike button?

might work better as a “suggestions” thing where you can tag a comment as a suggestion, and people can filter for suggestions (and ig a punishment for misusing it?)
