The first one is already rejected (and given how popular that assets was before, it should probably be added).

Then how come @Paddle2See closed the topic, and how come he stated that cubeupload “seems like what folks should be using”?

There is a dedicated discussion about it here :-)

I agree. If the issue was still up for discussion, the topic would not be closed. The fact that that thread is now closed makes @paddle2see's word final until further notice.

Out of curiosity, does the new filter let you edit the topic? It let me quote the entire thing and post it (which I removed), but I am wondering because the image in 1.11 is hosted on assets with the get image part, and because 7.1 mentions [blue-purple app].

Asset links were popularized by the extension when a tweak was added to it that allows you to upload an image file to it and get the link. If I remember correctly, assets.scratch.mit.edu stores the files for projects, including costumes. I'm guessing this worked by creating an unshared project on some account with your image as a costume, then retrieving the assets link for that costume.

It would be used as a convenient alternative to Cubeupload and a way to post clickable links to images in comments (as reaction images, etc.), and it was more likely to be unblocked on any school computer where Scratch is as well, where as Cubeupload tends to be blocked.
Thanks for the lesson. Do we think that uncensoring assets.scratch.mit.edu should be added to this list? I'm hesitant to do so if its history is rooted in browser extensions, but maybe I'm just too tired to think rationally at the moment.

Now, the question is whether or not this was actually popular. It's easy to say something is “popular” when you are thrust into a community that uses it a lot. Kind of like the forums — many forum users think the forums are “popular.” But in reality, less than 1% of Scratchers use the forums.
Nearly every image I see posted on the forums is hosted with assets, as a popular browser extension most forum users use add a button where you can upload images using assets.

Also, note that I was not trying to imply that a large percentage of users use assets, but it is certainly popular among forum users, and there are several rejected suggestions on this list regarding the forums.
Yeah kinda an L argument on my part. I'm still not too happy that this all came into play due to browser extensions, though.

k7e wrote:

It is the link to costume or backdrop images that are stored on the Scratch servers. The aforementioned browser extension added a button on the forums where you upload a file, and then it creates a new Scratch project, uploads the image into it, gets the link to the image on the servers, and then deletes the project. Users preferred using it instead of, for instance, Cubeupload, because assets would never go down unless Scratch went down, and a school filter would never block it unless the school filter blocked Scratch.
Thanks for the lesson.

This is my forum signature! On a forum post, it is okay for Scratchers to advertise in their forum signature. The signature is the stuff that shows up below the horizontal line on the post. It will show up on every post I make.

I was a Scratch Team member from May 10th 2019 to October 29th 2021. I reached 20,000 forum posts on June 24th 2024.

I think this is a reasonable idea to add to the list. I think its roots in browser extensions are what Paddle meant when he said assets was never intended to be used that way, anyway. So, you could explain in your entry that it was an unintentional feature which wasn't supposed to exist in the first place, that was being repeatedly abused by spammers.

They are 18+, former ST member - It's a real rank, however there's barely any of them in existance.

It's “forum moderator”, not “former moderator” – those are the users that are still Community Moderators from before the program ended.

Do you mean they have been on scratch when forum moderator was a real rank?

I think we should add “Ban certain project type” to the TOLORS, as i have seen multiple people suggest removing types of projects they do not like, but the projects are not breaking the rules.

I am small developer with big ambitions who likes to frequent the forums, Currently i’m working on a game called the battle sticks! the battle sticks is a single player action game with inspired by battle cats! if thats you cup of tea then press this Link and play for yourself, if you don’t want to play, thats ok! i wont force you. Have a great day!

Most of the warrior cats ones are probably a good example, there were a lot of those (or those are questions I'm remembering from QaS as I legit cannot find any of them anymore).

Isn't that already rejected under “ban a certain franchise”?

I think that particular example, yes. But some other types of project ban suggestions, such as banning generic platformers, wouldn't qualify as being under a particular franchise.
