it's banned now i guess. many people use this as their primary host, and this also means people cannot edit many posts or update their signatures.

Yes I was about to suggest this. I literally used that as my image host but now it's gone for no reason I know of.

its because of the update being rushed (I'm gonna be open about this and just say it's definitely because of the impatience on the community's side to be real here)
just tell Contact-Us and wait
EDIT: Context: the comment filter got overlayed onto the forums, but that caused issues because of rushing, such as get_image not being unblocked from the filter on the forums.

People used it to abuse the filter. Since it was unblocked anyone could share anything.
Similar to what you can do with CubeUpload, and assets is guaranteed to be unblocked on devices that can access Scratch, so it shouldn’t be banned

So it could be an accident, we will have to wait and see.

It might be because the forums just randomly shut down, and the only way you'd know why it was shut down is from a studio only a hundred or so people are in.

Support, like that is one of the most relied sources of image sharing

It's definitely an accident.
Why would they remove a highly primary source of usage imagehost intentionally??
The community was basically whining that the forums was down for longer than 2 days asking for it to be reopened already.

As they say, you get what you ask for.

Note that I think the fact that you can attach images from the Scratch assets database may have been unintended.

For now, you can always share images via projects or other whitelisted services like CubeUpload.

To be fair, they did add it to the whitelist.
(Although it might just be that they whitelisted the *.scratch.mit.edu domain, and it carried over)

I wonder if it was being abused, then?

yeah It was because of https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/931395770 it was in construction and two https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/930597315 (cheddargirl screenshot it was also it was lagging so much. I get why they will change the filter, but if the images were part of the problem, even tho there reliable then I can see why for lag. Yet again, there were many people using that instead since cubeupload was blocked. I know I did. And images are very useful for forum posts too. I don't get why that unless there making an alternative

Yes but it's on Scratch and when you're a non-commercial site, offering an image host plus a community platform is just too much.

As I recall, it was blocked on the main site because it was being abused in comments and spam attacks.

My tests show that cubeupload links are still accepted as an image host on the forums - that seems like what folks should be using. It was never our intent to have assets.scratch.mit.edu be used as a general purpose image host for non-project images.
