Still debating on how every sprite will function. Since my current main issue is 100% re-creating the battle box. I do have a bunch of prototypes on how the battle box can work and function, however it's still not like Undertale. I did manage to create a box that can expand and change over the enemy and background sprite. But it's limited to covering up the attacks. In Undertale, the creator most likely used crop and camera system.

*The Camera system displays attack elsewhere within the room, allowing strange layer behavior to exist. This can be seen with the muffet spider attack (breakfast & dinner) .

*The crop system is a trick that's used to crop out the sprite once it leaves the box's borders. This can be seen during Knight Knight battle, where long spears are hidden once they cross the border.

*The issue is somewhat obvious, neither of these things are possible to achieve within scratch, mainly because it's very limited. Some solutions may include a bunch of cropped out costumes to re-create the crop system illusion, or just using borders to cover up the hidden overlay.

An example can be seen here, the box must expand upwards and cover up the enemy & the background, but it also needs to somehow have another hidden overlay to cover up any incoming attacks.



I think I'm wasting more time trying to perfect something that's almost impossible rather than actually finishing the project, I don't have an issue coding it, I very much know how to do it, I'm just aiming it to be as accurate as possible, yet knowing some things are just out of my reach due to Scratch's limitations.

this new engine will be amazing i can tell
