Support, but the user should be alerted that their post has changed (and the ability to edit the original version to fix formatting issuesshould be there).

Something like this might happen:

My opinions on this suggestion, though, are different than the ones I expressed on the original topic back in 2021 when I still used the support convention and made very cringy posts. This is a programming site, and it would probably be valuable to teach users that tags do not close themselves.

This is a programming site, but the programming happens in the Scratch editor, not the discussion forums. BBCode formatting should be simple and easy to use, and any feature that makes it easier is welcome in my book.

That said, I think they're focusing all their efforts on the long overdue Scratch 3 forums. The best thing to do there is make the formatting WYSIWIG, and that'll avoid formatting problems in the first place.

Just because the programming happens in the editor and not the forums doesn't mean that the one thing in Scratch resembling actual text-based coding shouldn't be educational. In my opinion, a messed-up quote could illustrate the importance of closing the tags. An improperly formatted BBCode on a discussion forum is a lot more minor than an entire website getting messed up, and websites have a lot more code than forum posts so it would be much harder to find the error.

Bump again. Also, after diving into the s2forums code, I found it outsources it's bbcode rendering. It uses a module called postmarkup. I think it would be pretty simple to alert or auto-close. I'm in favor of autoclose. The forums are not supposed to be this hard to use.
I am currently working on a way to modify it to automatically close. That is, assuming Scratch still uses it since they close sourced the forums years ago.

Please don't add more examples to show how annoying it is. We already know how annoying it is.

Support. I've never encountered this before, probably because I'm almost always on QaS, but I've seen others have the issue. Seeing it, especially the quote one, is always confusing, and makes people reply with just, “Please don't make an empty post,” and not answer the OP's question.
