No, what are you thinking???
ik it sounds a bit bad, but that's what they are usually called
doesn't sound very appropriate for scratch tbh
also who are you refering to that usually calls them that?????
the thing i'm not allowed to mention

There's no person being referred to lol, it's just blocks that have no event block attached, which can be called “orphaned blocks”

Although, I think “Delete stray blocks” or “Delete unused blocks” might be better anyways, just in case someone thinks this relates to parental status

Most do, the nono-word too calls them orphaned blocks, as they don't have a hat block to attach them to…

That’s what it’s actually called in programming terms

I guess “delete loose reporters” and “delete loose blocks” is better

when a
stop [Other scripts in this sprite v]::stack
Has code below it and is changed to a
stop [All v]
When the blocks below it get detached it’s internally called “orphaning”

I mean who in the world calls them “orphaned blocks”? i've never heard that phrase EVER before (and I don't want to ever again)

now im confused, i dont think most other programming languages uses blocks in the first place, and how would you have a “orphaned line” or “orphaned function” lol

well, what if there's a function that's been defined but has never been used

No, that is too technical, “ Delete stray blocks ” is better.

How is “delete loose blocks” more technical than “delete stray blocks”

If anything loose blocks is less ambiguous than stray. And “reporter” is what scratch calls anything that returns (basically circle or triangle shaped blocks) these are referenced a lot and are shown in custom blocks so there’s not even an argument to be made that kids won’t know what it means

Look, I didn't know what a reporter was, but now I know so call it “delete stray blocks/reporters” and why call it delete loose reporters/blocks? it's like a loose tooth or a loose block on the loose. I think “ delete stray blocks/reporters ” is better because it is like a stray block/reporter/dog without a parent/hat block. But who knows? let the scratch team choose I guess. ( Note: sorry if you think i am being mean to you sorry. ) ( Another note: my brain farted when i typed technical, sorry i meant it sounded like a block/reporter running on the loose and it sounded like a loose tooth. )

ok theres also boolean blocks so it should be called delete all blocks not attached to a hat block, and not delete all blocks/reporters on a hat block because boolean blocks are the hexagon shaped blocks and they and reporters are technically a block too.

that'd make people think it's deleting every block, not just ones that aren't attached to hat blocks.

Maybe it could be called “Delete old code”. Also here's a mockup for you

I think that is way too mistakenable - A new user could probably think their older code wasn't actually deleted, and the unfinished and unattached work they were commiting is now gone.

I like this as a function.
But I would want the ability to set some blocks as ‘protected’ which would stop the blocks from getting deleted when the delete unused block function is ran.
