The problem is that modern browsers won’t let
sounds automatically play
so some projects will be broken

Is this even allowed to be open? Sure, there's no necroposting in suggestions, but this is a question posted before the questions forum existed. Plus, stevetheipad's account doesn't even exist anymore.

I feel like every other game sharing site has some sort of a play button, so not sure why Scratch should really change. I think the reason that online games don't start automatically is because often, HTML can't start audio automatically. Having a green flag makes it run better.

How come scratchers didn’t consider this:

Is this even allowed to be open? Sure, there's no necroposting in suggestions, but this is a question posted before the questions forum existed. Plus, stevetheipad's account doesn't even exist anymore.i think we're treating this more like a suggestion now (“we shouldn't have to click the green flag to start the project”)

It would probably be better to organize code AND start a project with “when green flag clicked”, else we'd have something like

i guess but this topic is old like why would you want to revive an 11 year old post instead of making a new one that redetails the issue.

I like the current way of doing things, you don't get some random noise or loud music blasted in your face the moment you click on a Scratch project.

I don't think this was an issue at the time the suggestion was first created, but now (unfortunately) report detectors are a thing. However, they don't work if the project hasn't started. If projects auto-start, then it would be possible to create a project that can't be reported at all (or at least not without great difficulty), if the project contains code to crash the entire page upon someone hovering over the report button. For this reason, I think it's good making projects not do anything until the green flag is clicked.
