Most of them are changed / moved due to the fact that some are in the incorrect place Scratch is a friendly and welcoming community for everyone, where people create, share, and learn together. We welcome people of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Help keep Scratch a welcoming, supportive, and creative space for all by following these Community Guidelines:
Treat everyone with respect.
Scratchers have diverse backgrounds, interests, identities, and experiences. Everyone on Scratch is encouraged to share things that excite them and are important to them—we hope that you find ways to celebrate your own identity on Scratch, and allow others to do the same. It’s never OK to attack a person or group’s identity or to be unkind to someone about their background or interests.
- Don’t show any hate especially to a scratcher or a community
- Don’t give threats to any scratcher or a community
- No Harassment or Bullying
- Don’t a fight on someone’s opinion
- Swearing isn’t allowed
- Don’t bypass the filter
Be safe: keep personal and contact information private.
For safety reasons, don't give out any information that could be used for private communication, in person or online. This includes sharing real last names, phone numbers, addresses, hometowns, school names, email addresses, usernames or links to social media sites, video chatting applications, or websites with private chat functionality.
- Don’t give anyone your password
- Only share accounts with your family members
- Don’t do a meeting with a scratcher you don’t know
- Websites with private messaging or unfiltered chat aren’t allowed to be linked
- Mentioning browser extensions or userscripts isn’t allowed (More info here)
- Don’t give both your age or birthday, only give one of them
- Don’t give links to phishing websites
Give helpful feedback.
Everyone on Scratch is learning. When commenting on a project, remember to say something you like about it, offer suggestions, and be kind, not critical. Please keep comments respectful and avoid spamming or posting chain mail. We encourage you to try new things, experiment, and learn from others.
- Everyone has different levels of skills so be polite and positive
- Spamming isn’t allowed (Scratchers can be annoyed)
- Follow for follow is allowed but don’t do it if a scratcher doesn’t want to (this applies to ads too)
Embrace remix culture.
Remixing is when you build upon someone else’s projects, code, ideas, images, or anything else they share on Scratch to make your own unique creation.
Remixing is a great way to collaborate and connect with other Scratchers. You are encouraged to use anything you find on Scratch in your own creations, as long as you provide credit to everyone whose work you used and make a meaningful change to it. And when you share something on Scratch, you are giving permission to all Scratchers to use your work in their creations, too.
- Give credit to the original creator of a project
- Don’t say to not remix, everyone has rights to remix
- A remix must be different from the original
- The content you share is in CC BY-SA 2.0, Do not discourage remixing
Be honest.
It’s important to be honest and authentic when interacting with others on Scratch, and remember that there is a person behind every Scratch account. Spreading rumors, impersonating other Scratchers or celebrities, or pretending to be seriously ill is not respectful to the Scratch Community.
- Don’t spread rumors about a scratcher
- Don’t shame a scratcher publicly even if they broke the rules
- Using alts to do social actions on your main isn’t allowed
- Shared projects that are meant to crash the site isn’t allowed)
- Don’t unshare and reshare to get on trending
Help keep the site friendly.
It’s important to keep your creations and conversations friendly and appropriate for all ages. If you think something on Scratch is mean, insulting, too violent, or otherwise disruptive to the community, click “Report” to let us know about it. Please use the “Report” button rather than engaging in fights, spreading rumors about other people’s behavior, or otherwise responding to any inappropriate content. The Scratch Team will look at your report and take the appropriate action.
- Its your responsibility to report scratchers who break the rules
- Keep your reports to a scratch team member privately
- Don’t falsely report a project that doesn’t break the guidelines
- Any project must be appropriate for scratch (Warnings don’t do anything)
(this also means some sensitive content must be tuned down or removed)
Video sharing site rules:
- Your content on a video site must be appropriate
- Use the Discuss Scratch Forums video player instead of direcly linking a youtube video (https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/youtube/%videoid%) to prevent scratchers from using social actions as youtube has different policies (Discuss forums automatically change the youtube link)
- Do not give links to streams or mention when you’re streaming as to keep things safe
Legal documents (You must follow them too):
Terms of Use

Here's a starter, ig

- Try to use replacements for actual guns, such as water/laser ones

On the last point, I would suggest adding, “or don't include them at all”.That might be fine under Maybe include something about realistic weapons? Maybe even make a new Community Guidelines section for it.Help keep the site friendly.

This is a really interesting suggestion, and I think it would really help make everything more clear. It was also probably limit the number of “Can I include this” (that's just an example) posts in the forums.
Additionally, I like how there are subsections that are elaborated on with 1-2 bullet points. This ensures that there's enough detail in each rule.

I edited it a little bit, let me know what you think!Treat everyone with respect.

Be safe: keep personal and contact information private.
For safety reasons, don't give out any information that could be used for private communication, in person or online. Maybe add, “Do not share links to phishing websites.”
Phishing links aren't that common, but they do exist. Maybe add it to prevent stealing Scratch passwords and even passwords from different websites.

Good idea, I'm just hesitant to do that because then kids who didn't know about Discord might search it up. Like personally, I didn't know about Discord until I heard people on Scratch talking about that it wasn't allowed My suggestion: Add discord into the unmoderated chat examples. Many people are wondering why discord isn't allowed.
Support! I used to be very blur with the rules. More clarity is better.
So I don't want to make like a big list of websites because there could be inappropriate stuff on them. I don't consider Discord or YT that bad, so that's why I put YT on the list, but I know Scratch will even censor the word Discord. So probably they consider it a very bad website.
Discord should be censored in general tbh. I have a friend who uses Discord and one of his friends is uh… yeah in the group chat.

I agree with this. It would be really bad if someone got hacked because of a phishing site. Here, I'll create a draft: Maybe add, “Do not share links to phishing websites.”
Phishing links aren't that common, but they do exist. Maybe add it to prevent stealing Scratch passwords and even passwords from different websites.
Be safe (the section):
Don't share links to phishing websites. Phishing websites are sites that collect personal information without letting the other user know. If you see a strange link, don't click on it! Report it or use Contact Us to let the Scratch Team know.
I made another small change.
- It's your responsibility to report Scratchers who break the rules.
- Keep your reports to a Scratch Team member private: don't tell anyone that you reported it.
-Don't report things in public.
- Don’t report projects that don't break the guidelines purposefully. Check to see if the project breaks the guidelines before reporting it.
- Any project must be appropriate for Scratch. Even if there is a warning, you can still report.
(This also means some sensitive content must be tuned down or removed.)

It is censored, just not on the forums. You'll get muted if you try typing it on the main website, and links aren't allowed. Many people discuss it on the forums (ex. Why was I muted for saying it?), so that's probably why it's not censored here. Discord should be censored in general tbh.

(#278)Why limit it to one specific kind of cyber threat? It should be referred to as “Malicious Links or websites” in general.I agree with this. It would be really bad if someone got hacked because of a phishing site. Here, I'll create a draft: Maybe add, “Do not share links to phishing websites.”
