Hello everyone, very new to this game….

Encountered a bit of an unexplained problem today. I had set up my teacher account a couple of days ago, no problem, was adding classes merrily, understanding the process. Even got one class logged on to Scratch yesterday, changing their passwords etc.

However, this morning whilst in the middle of a setting up a new class, I found that I suddenly couldn’t add a ‘new student’ – I tried to add the 21st pupil and it wouldn't work, no error message, no email, etc. I had just added the 20th pupil a minute before. I then thought maybe a glitch with the class so I set up another class but whilst the class is now showing I can’t add any new students there either.

There can’t be too many students or anything like that as I see you can have 250 in one class. Has anyone come across anything like this before, am I doing something wrong that’s obvious?

In my haste I did add 3 accounts in the process with the wrong pattern of student name that I wanted – quite easy to do if you’re setting up account after account. Found out that I couldn’t delete them as a teacher but that the student could delete their account. As I hadn’t let the pupils know yet I just simply went in with their logins and deleted the accounts. I’ve received 3 separate emails for each of the accounts saying they’ll be deleted within 48 hours. I wouldn’t imagine this is connected.

Hello new teacher to Scratch. First of all this is not a game, this is a platform. Second of all, I have no idea, another teacher said that this was happening for him/her too so maybe it's a bigger bug. You report bugs in Bugs And Glitches though, not Questions About Scratch.

There was a maintenance just a few days ago — However it had nothing mentioning student accounts.

You could ask Contact-Us about this, scroll to the bottom of that page (or click “Contact Us” in the footer{the bottom of any page's “header”}), click the button (It's “Segítség Keresése” in hungarian, I don't trust google translate enough, it should be visible though), fill out the form and I think the topic should be “Teacher or Student accounts” but I'm unsure as I ain't an educator im literally a teen so apologies but I can't help in any other way other than saying Contact-Us might be the way to go.

EDIT: Tl;dr: Contact-Us probably has an answer, or ST. Not much we can say.
EDIT2: Might just be a student limit — Although I don't know, not alot of people on the forums are teachers (if any), so we can't really say much other than Contact-us can help unfortunately.

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's just a temporary limit (a “cooldown”) as to how many students you can add at one time. Such a “cooldown” exists for other features on Scratch. For example, I believe that if you add a lot of projects to a studio, you will have to wait some time before adding another project. (I don't know how much time exactly, but certainly at most 24 hours.)

If this is the case, then all you'd need to do is wait a bit (I'd suggest maybe a day) to see if you can add more students to your class later.
