no point in making a topic for this lol
You are failing to see my point here.
I want Scratch Cat to be, by default, black. Not just having to change it every time.
Your logic here is: “why make the forums 3.0 if you can just use a userscript?”

Why? People would definitely not like this if it happened.

No, you are failing to see our points.
There is no need to change this because:

While black/white is the best color ever, don't fix what isn't broken.
The Scratch Cat's orange is just iconic and there's no need to change it.
And this is much easier to do yourself compared to userscripts.

I'm gonna report this to be closed, this is an obvious no and there's no need for this to happen.
If you want the Scratch Cat to be black, do it yourself. It's not hard.

I don't think that it will get closed as @Paddle2See has already posted on this. Typically when @Paddle2See – a moderator that doesn't reply to many topics unless he's closing them – replies to a topic (especially one with very little support, like this one) without closing it, that means that it was probably already reported but it didn't get closed.

Also, you can’t just report a suggestion to be closed because you simply don’t like it..?

As I said.
Your logic: “why make the forums 3.0 if you can do that with userscripts”
Also your logic: “the mystuff page isnt broken so why make it 3.0?”

Firstly: I am suggesting that Scratch Cat should be turned black, or a grayish color, because I personally think it would look good, I didn’t make this suggestion simply because I want my projects to have black scratch cat.
Also, “don’t fix what isn’t broken” is awful logic, especially in the Suggestions forum, because basically you are saying that nothing should be changed because it works alright. Well, would you like it if the Scratch website stayed exactly the same for the next 10 years?

That isn’t their logic though? They’re simply saying we don’t need to make the Scratch Cat black. Someone provided an image on page 1 with an edited image of the ST’s YouTube profile picture, however the scratch cat’s fur was black. Trust me, it does not fit well with the orange logo.

In fact, the scratch cat is orange because the logo is orange. If the logo text was black, it might make more sense, but a black scratch cat would not fit next to an orange logo at all.

It's not because I don't like, it's because it's obviously not gonna happen.

Just because you think it looks good doesn't mean everyone else will.

No, the logic works just fine in the Suggestions forum because there are stuff that could be made better or added. This is not one of those things for the reasons I have listed before.

At least that had a good reason.
This doesn't. Just because one person likes the color black doesn't mean everyone else does.

You are failing to see my point here.

Your logic here is: “why make the forums 3.0 if you can just use a userscript?”
And you are failing to see ours.

Why make Scratch Cat, whose orange and white fur has been an iconic part of their design for years, black? A mascot of a educational programming site should accurately reflect the nature of that site. A cartoonish orange and white cat does that, as the coloring resembles the Scratch logo and the cartoonish cat can easily symbolize the “all-ages” policy of Scratch. Why must we adhere to your wants and standards? Don't get me wrong, you are permitted to have your opinion, but it's simply that, your opinion. To treat it as fact is both illogical and unhelpful. If you wish to convince us that your suggestion has actual merit that is not purely subjective, then explain to us the merits based on factual information and present points on why black would work better, outside of “I like black.”

I disagree with your analogy for several reasons. First of all, userscripts are a much more difficult task to perform, let alone concept for children to properly understand and create without issue. Secondly, filling a color in with the bucket tool is not anywhere near the level of complexity of userscripts, so making a comparison there isn't very accurate. Lastly, not everyone has the tools to be able to utilize userscripts, which is an issue that using the fill bucket simply does not have, outside of, perhaps, blindness or colorblindness.

I think you must have made a mistake. I was only giving an example of the flawed logic that the previous user had, but I didn’t mean havign Scratchers create userscripts for your udnerstanding of my intent. The part you are talking about is an example of the irony by the expression “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” in this specific case, being similar to something like Scratchers utilizing browser extensions (“user scripts”) to make 2.0 pages look like the 3.0 style because, by the expression’s logic, there’s no need to update the page to 3.0 format because it’s not broken.

Make scratch cat black

Hey there!

I thought I could add something to this discussion.

I completely respect the fact the you would prefer if Scratch Cat was coloured in the shade black. I also realise, that if the Scratch Team really wanted to, they could change Scratch Cat's colour palette to replace the colour orange with black.

However, I thought I could take a quote from this stickied topic.

Why most suggestions fail wrote:

Flexibility and power are also goals, but they take a backseat to this core vision. Any suggestion you make has to be so good that it outweighs the challenge of 8 year olds facing it for the first time, useful enough for Scratch's core vision of kids creating stories, animations and games, as well as supporting the sharing of projects, collaboration, and kids learning from each other's code, as well as outweighing these factors enough to justify the weight of simply having an extra feature.

I have read this suggestion a couple of times over, yet you never explained why this feature would be useful for Scratch and how it supports Scratch's core vision. I recommend explaining this as it will help improve your suggestion!

I really am curious about your reasoning for this suggestion and would appreciate if you could explain it in more detail as this may help more users understand the possible benefits you see in this suggestion.

^ Also, my suggestion isn’t simply to have a blakc Scratch Cat in projects, that’s an easy workaround.
I mean actually changing the mascot’s color to black, or a dark gray. It’s a difference. If you don’t support this suggestion, simply say so, but this argument leads to nothing.

Edit: this is a follow-up to my post https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/7478855/

Cuz black is my fav color lolzz xD fr fr
(Fr = farted recently/french fries)

Well, I simply like the colour black and think it would fit for Scratch Cat.
But at the same time, there are some other suggestions don’t abide by the rule of “being useful for Scratch”, they are simply suggestions that have no use, yet they still exist.
