How much does it cost to host the image generation tool and if they're using an API, how much does it cost?

It will cost a lot if people start to use it.

No support. Great when you don't know how to draw something.

If you don’t know how to draw something you’re looking for you can look for a sprite in the sprite library or get an image from Google.

On to the suggestion, do I really need to explain why I support this? AI art, if done for funny videos (an example would be PolygonDonut’s video about AI generating emojis) is fine, however most of the time people use AI to draw something then pass it off as their own. Once someone on another platform was commissioning art, however their art was very clearly AI generated, and they denied it being AI generated. They were trying to sell AI art, we do not need those kinds of black markets spreading to scratch.

This has to be the most well-constructed response I've seen.

No “AI is theft”

No “AI doesn't let you imagine”

Just a breakdown of the article's main pointers, and an unbiased summary.

I don't really support AI being added to scratch(because budget constraints, it not exactly being the best idea for a kids platform(because the stuff Za-Chary mentioned), and because I know some scratchers are NOT gonna respond well to it.

No it's real, look at the Scratch Team Blue Bird account:

I don't think they should add it though because I just feel like it would kill the purpose of the paint editor and costumes/backdrops.

And searching for pictures on Google Images doesn't?

I mean, I just feel like people would do this to avoid/stop drawing completely if you know what I mean, and do many younger Scratchers know how to do that?
Would this say that the images were AI generated at least?

I think it should show that it uses AI generated art where it shows if the project uses an extension.

Okay thank god, but I feel like this might be a bit too expensive still.

AI art does cost a lot if the community starts using it.
And we don’t need the “AI art drama” in Scratch, just look at the other websites.

support. There's CRAIYON.com which is the same. plus its useless for people with access to multiple ai image generators.

Ai can generate scary, weird, disgusting images that can creep children out so why are they even adding this?

Wow… that’s- that’s a really long post-
Yes, scanning art to make art is basically stealing for some, and the one about artists’ feelings (which I have showed about a few times) is one of the most major ones, the artist might very well feel angry because some 6 year old kid who use a generator to make art is more loved than the art they spent 5 hours+ on it.

And ai is weird too ngl

My only explanation is that Scratch started development on this feature a long time ago, and is just releasing it now. Because. There's no way. They could possibly think that through today and say “Yes, this is a good idea.” There is so much outrage going on all over the Internet against AI-generated images, and they want to add this? Astonishing.
They don't want to add it. This same Scratch Team member explicitly stated that they are not planning on adding it to Scratch anytime soon.

TBH not including an AI art generator in Scratch itself is pointless, as people can just go to one of the many completely free sites that allow you to generate art using AI and use the image generated by that.

Some of the popular AI image generators require you to either pay or verify with a phone number. Also, adding an AI image generator directly to Scratch would give children who aren't aware of other image generators direct access to one.
