and the explore page will stop selecting projects via hashtags and start categorizing them via categories
makes sense, right?

===

in all seriousness, this is an important change and imo should have priority because the explore section categories are filled with unrelated projects, like this:
https://scratch.mit.edu/explore/projects/music/

literally NOT ONE project is about music in the first page of the entire category. this needs to change
these projects clutter everything up, and, even though tag spam is very much reportable, reporting all of these projects at once is not a solution. the solution is this suggestion.

Support! This is a really good way to reduce the clutter on the explore page!

btw, it makes too much sense

Good idea. I'm starting to fail to see the purpose of hashtags / tags in general, even if they were always used correctly.

Yes!! Now that’s what I want to see more than tags ever.
Support! It reduces so much of the clutter inside explore and also gives us a new list of categories to choose from!

So, if you typed #music, that wouldn't get it on the Music category of the Explore page. Yeah, this makes more sense than allowing people to spam #trending #all #animations #art #games #music #stories #tutorials.

yippie! we get to remove clutter with projects that belong in this category. a scratch team member will review it if it gets enough feedback

Hmm, well my suggestion is mainly for the Explore categories, not actual subcategories and stuff
would it still be considered a duplicate?

So what if a project is able to fit under multiple categories?

it doesn't really matter, one primary category should be selected

I had the same thought a while ago (if you want a written description, it's exactly the same thing haha- I love your mockup) and i couldn't agree with you more on this one— the way things are now just aren't really working too great. I feel like the original purpose of tags has been bent into misuse, and this would both fix the tagging system and also the explore page.

Extra note that i talked about: i feel like the projects in the “none” category should still be able to be sorted into the “all” section in trending, so even if something doesn't fit specifically into one thing or another, it can still get seen by more people.

^ In that case, the “none” category should probably be renamed to “All”.
But it does seem that my topic is a duplicate of yours, so I'll close this
