Barebones MIDI Editor/Functionality Extension
This is not about MIDI keyboard functionality, a suggestion for that exists but I can't find it.
The feature would be packed into 1 extension.
The extension would add these blocks:
Enabling the extension would also make available a MIDI editor (like you'd find in simple DAWs like Soundtrap, as pictured below) alongside the Codes, Costumes and Sounds menu.

The MIDI editor would be similar to the sound editor, with
You could also choose from a library, download, or upload MIDI.

The MIDI editor would be similar to the sound editor, with
- a screen showing the notes
- Select, Copy, Paste, Draw, Delete, Stretch, and Move tools
- a Pause/Play button
- a record button where you can use a midi device or the asdfghjkl keys
- a tempo slider
- and a Reverse effect.
You could also choose from a library, download, or upload MIDI.
Notes:
- MIDI files take up hundreds of times less space than their audio file counterparts, which makes them work for a free service that relies on server storage like Scratch. (I am not suggesting getting rid of mp3 in scratch)
- Some of the coding and assets for this extension could be repurposed from the Music extension.
- This would give less experienced scratchers access to a wider variety of music for their projects without leaving the site.

I'd went on a tangent on another MIDI-related suggestion, but not to copy what I said, here's the TL;DR: MIDI is depreciated. nobody uses it.
besides, here's what I didn't write in that tangent: some devices might not have MIDI support.

(Unlike its use as a way to play music saved on a drive) MIDI is still both commonplace, and one of the best ways to do what it does, in coding and digital music production.
The midi would just hold the music data used in the project so not really playing the MIDI in real-time per se, so device compatability shouldn't matter as far as I know.

Bump, I imagine at least a few more people might have something to say about this

Sorta. People rarely listen to music from a .midi file, it's outdated in that regard, but still used in programming and certainly used in music production.(#2)can i have a source

I'd be glad to have a link or a quote. I'd went on a tangent on another MIDI-related suggestion,
No it is not. MIDI is commonplace in many but not to copy what I said, here's the TL;DR: MIDI is depreciated. nobody uses it.modern applications, because it's simple and (somewhat) still effective.
Also, the closest I found to a deprecation of MIDI, was a MIDI cross-device configuration standard(MIDI Capability Inquiry), which isn't really needed now as to my understanding all MIDI devices have basically the same specs now.
might not have MIDI support.MIDI doesn't require dedicated hardware now, a good amount of musicians still have dedicated MIDI devices, but not all. To my understanding, MIDI is mostly done with software now, not hardware. besides, here's what I didn't write in that tangent: some devices

No, MIDI is not “depreciated” / deprecated. Well, it is deprecated in the sense of music I'd went on a tangent on another MIDI-related suggestion, but not to copy what I said, here's the TL;DR: MIDI is depreciated. nobody uses it.playing but that's not the use of MIDI files the topic was talking about. Rather, this topic was talking about music creation using MIDI files which is most certainly not deprecated
besides, here's what I didn't write in that tangent: some devices might not have MIDI support.
