Is Scratch Safe
Hello everyone,
I am here to discuss something with you guys… Is Scratch Safe?
I think it is! But my parents think the opposite just because of darn chatting. Like, I'm old enough to know what to do online. Parents just judge websites with chat without even giving proof. Scratch chat filters are highly secured. I tested it on my ALT account and there is proof that you can't share websites, personal info and even your home address. It's the same thing with Roblox. But I do think that Roblox is starting to get dangerous and I do agree with my parents but… There is a button in your settings the ‘privacy’ button that allows you to remove your chat feature. But yet, parents still say no. I do think that Roblox is dangerous, but that doesn't mean you should relate this to Scratch. Scratch hasn't had the kind of stuff, and I do think that Scratch is safe.
On the other hand, Roblox is a little bit safe if you remove your chat feature. So I think both Roblox and Scratch are safe in my opinion.
If you guys have any opinion on this, please share it down in this forum (only). You can share this forum to other people in Scratch.
Please do not report this forum as its just an opinion.
Bye..

Also opinion-topics shouldn't be placed on the Forums because they can cause Flame Wars.

Keep in mind that there are usually only children on the site. People who do behave inappropriately usually have action taken against them relatively quickly. Scratch is an overall safe platform.

There are filters like the bad word detector (on the main website at least) and the mute system or the automatic takedown of inappropriate projects because of too many reports, as well as alerting and banning of users (and even IP bans) that should keep users safe. Users can also report content that they see as a violation of the Community Guidelines, and the Scratch Team can review it and take down the content.
However, I should warn you that even with these safeguards in place, Scratch is and will never truly be 100% safe, no matter how many safeguards there are. Stuff should still slip through the cracks, and users can (and will) find ways to bypass these restrictions. The Report button will be very useful for these cases.

Scratch’s chat is extremely overly filtered, so it’s very safe.

Sometimes parents just want their children to be safe, and I'm well aware of that. As said above, you should try and get your parents to read the Community Guidelines and even try to convince them to use Scratch themselves. I'm not sure how effective it'd be, but the hope is that if your parents can see how safe Scratch is as a platform and community, they'd be more lenient on you when it comes to Scratch.

It's actually very safe. You can't share personal info nor say anything bad on scratch. Show your parents the community guidelines and maybe terms of use to prove them that it's safe to use.

Source? Scratch is one of the lowest websites on the list of trackers safari blocks on my phone, and I know that 4 out of 5 of them are google suff I have done a lot of research on this, and I'll be happy to provide you with an answer.
scratch does steal a lot of your data, in 2018 an investigation was held about scratch selling your data to third parties, and its still unknown wether this was true or not.
However many people (including myself) have experienced many spam, and scam like emails after signing up for scratch.
I don't trust them, I mean how else would they pay their employees, almost nobody donates

don’t judge the book by its cover I think it is! But my parents think the opposite just because of darn chatting. Like, I'm old enough to know what to do online. Parents just judge websites

Honestly… Scratch is mostly safe and appropriate for all ages. I have seen cursing muted out, and inappropriate things have happened… however, I do think Scratch is safe. If you are on the internet at all then you expose yourself to these kinds of risks, and Scratch is literally the safest place I know on the internet to be. <3

You’ll probably be fine unless you go looking for inappropriate stuff, because they get taken down quickly. Chatting needs to be public, so that’s safe unless someone makes a private chat, so just report them

of course scratch is safe, it has the strictest filterbot ive ever seen, which is being improved weekly, you literallly cant even say anything concerning.
i even got muted for telling another user not to encourage users to use extensions because of the ultra strict filter.

Scratch is very safe, and it's for kids! So you should be fine, as long as you don't run into bullies.

Scratch is pretty safe as of right now. If it was a year ago I would say not that safe since a year ago people got hacked a lot. But the filter works most of the time, but the problem is people can bypass swears using different fonts.
