No, I don't think that is possible. Scratch 1.4 can't open that type of file, only .sb files.

Scratch 1.4 can only open .sb files. Scratch 2.0, however, can open both .sb and .sb2 files.

Wow, but those .sb2 files gave me a locked up screen and blue screen of death.

A Blue Screen Of Death was possible because your RAM had run out of space. Were you running many programs at the same time, or had many tabs open? Were you opening the project from a hard disk or from a USB flash stick? Sometimes a hardware failure can cause your computer to BSOD.

The computer has 2GB of RAM and a 465GB hard drive, but it has 708MB of RAM left and there is 274GB of space left on the hard drive.

If you are trying to open an .sb2 file in 1.4 it won't work. .sb2 is the 2.0 file type, while 1.4 needs the “Scratch Project” File type.

That could be your problem. If you only have 708MB of usable RAM left then you really need to replace it. After loading Windows, most of that RAM will be engaged, so loading Scratch was like the icing on the cake, and it BSODed.

250MB of RAM is the reserve zone.
