Gravity Falls is currently on Season 2, episode 9 when this topic has been started,

I have watched every episode so far about 3 times, and have some theories.

-Soos is evil / works for government
This is a very supported theory. Soos knowing more than he lets on shows quite a bit. Bill Cipher, who can read minds, calls Soos ‘smart.’ Soos is shown to someday want ownership of the mystery shack. When Stan borrows Dipper's journal and Mabel wonders what he would want with it, Soos comes the minute after she says it and distracts them. In ‘The Time Traveler’s Pig,' Soos predicts the future of Stan being knocked off ‘Dunk Stan’ by an laser arm gun, and a creature stealing his screwdriver. In ‘Blendin’s Game,' when Dipper and Mabel give him his time wish, he wishes for 2 things - an infinite pizza and Dipper and Mabel to be better - with 1 time wish, Although that could just be a behind-the-scenes mistake. In one of the games, a code is, ‘the handyman knows more than you think.’ Soos is most likely the handyman, as that is his job at the mystery shack. May be forgetting stuff….

The show's been on winter hiatus since late November. No date has been confirmed for the new episode, but it will most likely be out by the end of the month.

There hasn't been a new episode since The Love God. ITS KILLING ME!!!!

I've heard that there's a new episode coming out on February 16th about Pacifica having a ghost problem in her mansion. It's probably false, but we can hope, right?

Seems like a nice episode, though I hope that they get back to the journal plot soon.

I agree, it seems like it'll be good - not Dreamscapers, but good - though I can't quite get over the fact we'll have to wait another month for it. In all honesty, I was expecting something main plot-centric, and I was especially hoping for another Bill appearance.

I have a great theory
The author is future dipper
How do I know this?
Remember “Irrational Treasure”?
Remember How silliness caused them to find the stuff?
Dipper would know that because In the future He would know that stuff would have happened to him. Also the author made all that stuff.
And the paper was a map when it was made into a hat.Dipper would know that so he would put it in the journal as an adult.

Yeah, that's actually a great theory.

The only problem is that Dipper doesn't have 6 fingers, which the Author is said to have.

I think that Soos is going to be the writer of the books OR he might know the writer. He's obviously tring to throw suspicion off himself since he knows a lot. Soos has been very close to Stan, so he has to know a lot since he worked at the shack since he was a little kid.

But, the writer might be someone we wouldn't suspect. Though, in my opinnion, it could be Stan. Stan has some secret labroatory and knows about the paranormal. So, since he's theortically a scientist, he might have gotten his memory whipped so that he forgot about the books.

Stan might have opened the portal so that the monsters would get sucked in, back to where they came, along with Bill Cypher. In season 2 episode 2, the code was: IMPROPER USE OF MACHINERY COULD LEAD TO UDDER CATASTROPHE. When I saw Stan with the portal thing, he had this distant, greedy look in his eyes and he might be using the portal wrong, according to the message. Perhaps the portal is for getting rid of monsters but he which was his orignal plan, but now his greed and thrist for power his making him want power and riches. Stan wants to fix the problem, but he is becoming obsessed and he might suck in EVERTHING in Gravity Falls, so as a pun, gravity falls “FALLS” .

Interesting theories, I've had some ideas lately about Stan and the machine for a while. I don't think he wrote the journals, as the six-fingered glove doesn't fit him, but if anyone knows the Stanley theory, that fills in the blank. Stanley could have written the journals, then gotten sucked in by the portal or the like, after which Stan continued his brother's quest.

I also think something catastrophic is going to happen to Stan. It's been subtly hinted at twice in the past couple episodes, once in Sock Opera and once in Love God. In Sock Opera, Stan's puppet catches on fire and in Love God, his balloon goes up in flames. This could mean that Stan or his plan will “crash and burn”, whether figuratively or literally.

1 ~ Soos is in his 20s, I think, and it's been stated the author wrote the journals 30 years ago.

2 ~ He's said he's been searching for the journals for 30 years.

I personally think the Stanley theory, although I had my doubts about it, is the best theory about who the author is.
