People, please, this is getting out of hand.
This forum has nothing to do with the color purple, or the update. Whether or not it was a good change is controversial, but the point is that it's not related.
The option to be able to change the color would genuinely help a lot of people, myself included. But instead of trying to add on to the suggestion people keep talking about Scratch being purple, there are other forum to discuss this
I really don't want this forum to be taken down just because a few people want to complain. Instead, we need to focus on how the update would work and how to make Scratch more inclusive for everyone.
So if you're here just to complain then just, like. Don't. Go do it somewhere else.

I reckon you should add (Don't complain about purple here, please) or something similar into the title.

Let's end this discussion about hexcodes.
In the grand scheme of things, this doesn't matter. A standard hex code (6 hex digits) is an RGB value. Represented as a number, it takes up 3 bytes. If we have 111 878 190 users (at the time of writing), this equates to 335 634 570 B, or 335 MB.
Now let's compare this.
Let's say only 10% of all users set a custom profile picture. (I bet more than 10% have set one, but whatever.) That means 11 187 819 custom profile pictures that need to be stored. Let's assume they have an average size of around 75 KB (75 000 B) (again, a pretty small value). Using the best calculator in the world, python, these profile pictures would take up about 839 086 425 000 B, or *drumroll* 839 GB!
And that either isn't that big. I know people who have 1 TB (1000 GB) of storage, on their computers (and some even on their PHONES!) Imagine storing all Scratch profile pictures on your PHONE! And remember, Scratch is funded by Google.
In case you don't have any basic computer knowledge, 839 GB is 2500 TIMES LARGER than 335 MB.
Still not convinced this is a good idea?
(BTW, they recently started refactoring the website code a bit, to use easily changeable CSS variables for colours, AFAIK)
Here is a size comparison for your enjoyment:

extremely good points(#1116)Yeah, so adding hex codes to the additional data shouldn't be a problem. Also read these:
-snip-
way more, if storing just 1 byte per person is already a gb, think about the images in studios and profiles that scratch hosts themselves. also all the data for the projectsAdding a few hex codes for customizable website colors for each user is unlikely to be a significant problem for servers in terms of storage space. While the statistics you provided show a large number of projects, users, comments, and other data, the additional storage required for a few hex codes per user is relatively small.
Hex codes are typically represented by six characters, representing RGB values. Assuming each hex code requires an average of 6 bytes of storage, the storage required for customizable website colors can be estimated.
Let's consider an example:
If there are 111,846,665 registered users, and each user has a customizable color, the total storage required would be:
111,846,665 users * 6 bytes = 671,079,990 bytes or approximately 671 MB
This is a relatively small amount of storage considering the current capabilities of servers. Additionally, modern server infrastructure is designed to handle large amounts of data and can scale accordingly to accommodate increasing storage requirements.
It's important to note that this estimate assumes only the storage space required for hex codes. Other user data, such as profile pictures, usernames, and project information, will contribute to the overall storage requirements. However, considering the given statistics, adding hex codes for customizable colors is unlikely to pose a significant storage challenge for the servers.
and Bing too:It’s understandable to be concerned about server space. However, adding a few hex codes for each user for customizable website colors should not be a problem for the servers. Hex codes are just a string of characters that represent a color, and each character takes up very little space. So even with a large number of users, the additional space required to store these hex codes would be relatively small compared to other data such as images or text. Is there anything else you would like to know?

i know this sounds very random, but what does a colorblind person see when they see purple?Well, it depends on how colorblind you are and in what ways. If you are completely colorblind, then yes, grey would be what they see, if you are only partly colorblind like most of the colorblind ‘community’ is, then you might see a different shade of purple, or depending on the circumstances, you might see blue, or red.

Maybe there could be website settings linked in the footer and/or navbar, so that logged out users can also access it? Maybe you could save presets to your account though, or stuff I don't know how to really explain.
Also, I love how the max project size limit went from 50MB to 708 GB.
And were people saying that it would “take too much space” or something?
